    A Derbyshire police officer who engaged in sexual activity in the back of a marked police van with a female officer has been sacked.

    A misconduct hearing was told that PC Christopher Frost and an another officer were both on duty in Derby city centre at the time.

    The panel heard that it was consenting and the couple shared flirtatious messages but a couple of days later Mr Frost touched another woman inappropriately.

    He was dismissed with immediate effect at a hearing today.

    Final preparations are being made for Goose Fair which opens tomorrow.

    Dozens of caravans are on site at the Forest Recreational Ground ready for the annual event.

    Bert Holland, who is the fourth generation of his family to choose life on the road, said: "We used to queue up all down Gregory Boulevard because in those days the council wouldn't let you on site until Monday morning."

    A 69-year-old walker had to be rescued after slipping over and breaking his ankle on Shinning Tor in Derbyshire.

    The man, who was with a walking group from Nottingham, was given pain relief by Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and then carried to a waiting ambulance.

    A scientist who won BBC Two's astronaut show says it would be her dream to be on the "international space station looking down on earth."

    Dr Suzie Imber, 33, from Leicester was revealed as the best candidate for space on Astronauts: Do you have what it takes? on Sunday.

    One of the tests the contestants had to take part in was on whether they can recognise the signs of oxygen deprivation, known as hypoxia.

    A cat has been reunited with her owner after going missing for more than a year.

    Cookie vanished from her home in Westhouses, Derbyshire, in August 2016 and ended up at the RSPCA in Chesterfield.

    Unfortunately she had a Swedish microchip, having emigrated the previous year, which meant her owner's details did not feature on any UK database.

    After exploring various channels with no success, the charity tried a Facebook post instead - and eventually the pair were reunited.

    Owner Jessica Vestin explained: "My boyfriend was on his break at work and he was looking on Facebook when he saw a photo of a cat which had been handed in to the RSPCA.

    "I took one look at the photo and I was sure it was my Cookie. It said on the post that she had a Swedish microchip, and I thought, there is no way there is another Swedish cat who looks like Cookie out there."

    "When she first came home she didn't act like Cookie and she seemed a bit scared of our other cat, Chilli, at first - but they're now best friends again. It's as though Cookie has never been away."

    Hospital parking charges at Leicester's three hospitals are to increase from next Monday for the first time since 2011.

    The trust says it is now a necessity due to increasing pressures on NHS budgets.

    It currently costs £1.50 to park, external for one hour but this will increase to £1.70 on Monday and £2.80 for two hours - an increase of 30p.

    Despite the increase The Royal Infirmary, Glenfield and the General Hospitals are the cheapest to park at in the East Midlands.

    The 33-year-old wicket-keeper, who joined Derbyshire in March on a two-year deal, hit 548 runs across all forms in his debut season.

    Police in Alvaston have been recreating that famous scene from Hot Fuzz by rescuing a swan that found itself lost near Raynesway.

    The operation saw some of the force's most advanced equipment - a wooden broom - used to encourage the bird away from the busy road.

    A software company hopes to create 500 jobs in Loughborough.

    The Access Group wants to move into Loughborough University's new Science and Enterprise Park as part of its expansion plans.

    It already has a base at the former Astra Zenica site.

    A dressmaker from Rutland has created a stunning dress featuring 600 felt poppies.

    The amazing outfit has taken Sara Atkin eight months to complete, with a friend joining her to sew each brooch.

    Sara said: “I make a few felt poppy brooches every year for the poppy appeal but this year wanted to do something more.

    "I’ve visited the grave of my great great uncle in northern France, who was killed in action just six weeks before Armistice Day, and to see the graves of so many young men and understand the enormity of the loss of life had a profound effect on me.”

    The dress will be displayed in London during the Poppy Appeal from 28 October to 2 November after which the brooches will be sold to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
