    Plans to introduce a one-way system through Oakham town centre have moved a step forward after a public consultation found most residents were in favour, external.

    Rutland County Council wants to regenerate the area along High Street to freshen up its look and attract more visitors.

    The plans will be discussed next week and a final decision made in the new year. If the revamp is approved, work could get under way before the end of the 2018.

    A portrait of music star Prince is among four paintings stolen during a break-in at an art gallery in Nottingham, external.

    Police said the Mansfield Road gallery was raided between 00:30 and 03:50 on Thursday 14 September.

    They've asked anyone who's been offered the paintings for sale to call them on 101.

    A stage interloper may have grabbed the headlines at the prime minister's conference speech but the organisation that represents businesses in Burton says it was more concerned at the lack of detail on how firms will be supported during Brexit.

    Chris Plant, director of the Burton and District Chambers of Commerce, said in a written statement: “The Prime Minister said much today about her party’s record in government, but less about what concrete, practical steps the government will take in the months ahead to support growth and investment.

    "Businesses will be looking for clear commitments this autumn. We need a mission statement for growth, with action to fix the fundamentals, and prepare the country for a period of change.”

    "This looks like it could have been so much worse for the people involved. Thank heavens no one was fatally injured," posted Helen Ratcliffe.

    Stephen Paul Shantz posted: "It's harvest season, so there's going to be farm equipment on the roads for a bit yet.

    "Thankfully the accident wasn't any worse and that it was just slow moving farm equipment and not a slow moving mini-bus of children."

    Two Conservative MPs in Nottinghamshire have added to the criticism of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who caused uproar over his comments about Libya.

    Broxtowe's Anna Soubry has called for Prime Minister Theresa May to sack him over the latest in a string of controversial incidents, while Ruschliffe representative and Father of the House Ken Clarke also said the remarks were beyond the pale.

    Former Derby County forward Giles Barnes was one of three football players escorted out of Disney's Epcot theme park in Florida for being "impaired and verbally aggressive" in a pub.

    A report from the Orange County Sheriff Office said the 28-year-old, who plays for Orlando City, was said to have "cut in front of a guest" in the pub and "had a verbal argument".

    Barnes (pictured left) was ordered to leave the park along with team-mate Donald Toia and USA striker Alex Morgan.

    Campaigners are planning to protest outside Derby City Council's headquarters this evening over its planned replacement for the Assembly Rooms.

    Members of the Derby Arts and Theatre Association are unhappy the authority's proposed £32m venue has a much larger focus on rock concerts and comedy shows than theatrical performances.

    The protest is due to be held before the council meets to discuss the plans.

    The Conservative party needs to show voters how it can improve people's lives, the first Tory MP for Mansfield has told the party conference.

    Ben Bradley, who took the seat from Labour for the first time in 94 years, said he was attracted to David Cameron's 'Big Society' vision, and backed current leader Theresa May's ideas.

    He admitted though that "a lot of people were surprised" at his election success - including, rather infamously, the election announcer who read out the wrong result.

    Another cash machine has been attacked by thieves - this time in Countesthorpe, external.

    Police said the machine, attached to The Co-operative in Main Street, was smashed open at about 03:45.

    Money was taken and boxes from inside the cash machine were found discarded on the outskirts of the village.

    Sir Alan Duncan has said "a bit of a tantrum" over immigration was one of the reasons for British people voting to leave the EU.

    The Rutland MP and foreign office minister told an audience in the US the campaign had "stirred up a lot of sentiment" about migration among people who don't usually vote.

    Duncan campaigned for Remain during last year's referendum.

    It may be enough to put arachnophobes' backs up, but two National Trust volunteers in Clumber Park were delighted to come across a rare diamond spider.

    They've only been spotted three times in the south of England, the last of those coming in 1969.

    The distinctive diamond-shaped mark on its abdomen gave the game away, and now their discovery is all over the world wide web.

    Derbyshire cricketer Shiv Thakor has pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual exposure at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

    The offences are alleged to have happened in June within a week of each other at a housing development off Radbourne Lane in Mackworth.

    He is due to go on trial at the same court on 15 November.

    The A50 eastbound remains closed near Sudbury following a crash this morning involving a van, lorry and combine harvester.

    British number four Dan Evans faces another six months on the sidelines after he was handed a ban for testing positive for cocaine earlier this year.

    The 27-year-old, who has spent much of his career training at Nottingham Tennis Centre, said the positive test in Barcelona in April was because the drug had accidentally mixed with his medication in a washbag.

    He was handed a one-year ban, which was back-dated to the day of his positive test, so he will be eligible to return to action from 24 April 2018.
