More than 100 years ago Nottingham's lace market was a thriving area and at it's peak there were over 130 hosiery factories in the city.

Now students from Nottingham Trent University have teamed up with leading fashion retailer Oasis to create a lace inspired collection.

Student Robert's black and baby pink lace dress was picked out as a favourite by the company's designers.

Lucy Penny, a junior designer at Oasis, said: "With lace being a trend of the season we felt that by doing a textile-based collaboration it would be a perfect match.

"We then found out what an amazing archive Nottingham lace has and the opportunity to link up with the university, so we felt it was a great match to bring some of these vintage laces back to life."

Nottinghamshire is leading a new project to attract American tourists to discover England's literary heritage.

Up to £500,000 will be spent promoting Eastwood - the birthplace of DH Lawrence - in partnership with tours taking in Shakespeare's Stratford and Jane Austin's Hampshire.

Research is underway to assess demand in the States but people in Eastwood think it's a good idea.

Carol Marks-Smith, who runs a craft shop in Eastwood, said: "It will certainly give it a boost but also the morale of people, you know they work really hard and some of them work long hours, it will certainly give it a boost."

The project is being run by UNESCO City of Literature.
