The parents of Matthew Birkinshaw said their son's death has left a "space no-one else can ever fill".
It follows the conviction of Natasha Gordon for encouraging his suicide in a car park at Rutland Water.
They said: "It is impossible to put into words the effect the loss of Matthew has had on our family.
"He was everything to us and he has left a space no-one else can ever fill."
They added: "It has become clear to us during this process how many people consider suicide without ever displaying any signs even to those closest to them. It has been heartbreaking to hear how when Matt needed kindness and support, he met someone who wanted to do him harm."

That's quite the right hook...
Prince Harry and fiancee Meghan Markle visited Nottingham Academy earlier where they met teachers and students who are part of the Full Effect programme.
The charity is supported by the prince and aims to reduce youth crime and violence in the St Ann's area of the city.

A police officer who sent "suggestive and flirtatious messages" to vulnerable victims of crime has been sacked.
Ben Bradshaw, a 37-year-old PC for Nottinghamshire Police, admitted gross misconduct and misconduct which breached the standards expected of him between June 2012 and April 2016.
A hearing this morning at force headquarters, pictured, found he sent the messages to women he came into contact with through his work as an officer based in Watnall.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “Reputationally the conduct is thoroughly discreditable and undermines all the hard work which dedicated and professional officers and staff undertake in supporting vulnerable victims on a daily basis."
These UK Christmas decorations are definitely not lit.

This rather fuzzy photo from Highways England can only mean one thing - traffic delays.
It's a broken down car and has led to a lane being closed on the M1 southbound between junctions 25 and 24a.

Two retired army dogs who face being put down because they cannot be rehomed must be reprieved, a minister has said.
Rutland and Melton MP Sir Alan Duncan has intervened in a bid to save Kevin and Dazz - reported to have served in Afghanistan locating explosives - by writing to Ministry of Defence ministerial colleagues.
The Belgian shepherds are due to face lethal injections next week, but former soldiers and handlers have written to the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray for the decision to be reversed.
Sir Alan said: "These are hero dogs who have fought fearlessly alongside our soldiers.
"Let us now be the ones to fight for them and give them a chance to live happy lives where they can thrive. It is the least they deserve."
An MOD spokesman said: "Wherever possible, we endeavour to re-home them [dogs] at the end of their service life. Sadly, there are some occasions where this is not possible."

A memorial to "England's heaviest police officer", who is thought to be the inspiration behind the Laughing Policeman song, has been unveiled.
PC John "Tubby" Stephens, who weighed 24 stone 3lbs (154kg), served as an officer in Leicester for 22 years during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
He was known for having a "larger-than-life" character and crowds of people would follow him around while on duty.
Despite his popularity, Stephens was buried in an unmarked grave, as experts believe the plot belonged to the Barker family, who were his neighbours.
Following 12 months of research, Leicestershire's Police Federation has paid for a stone at Stephens' grave to properly recognise his legacy.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has warned his players to expect "good football" and not just "physicality" from tomorrow's visitors Burnley.
The Clarets, who have defied expectations so far this season, lie sixth in the table, three places above Puel's Foxes.
Puel said: "We have to be careful. If we watch Burnley, the table doesn't lie. I think they are sixth, it is a fantastic season for them. They have confidence and are a strong team.
"They are not just physical, they start with the ball and try to play good football and have had good results away from home. It's a big challenge for us but also for them."

A council has admitted it was "over cautious" when it installed a widely-ridiculed cordon around a Christmas tree for public safety.
Derby City Council said it created the "exclusion zone" in Market Place to "enable people to view the tree at a safe distance".
People complained it was "a disgusting mess" and "not festive at all".
Most of the metal fencing has now been removed but a smaller barrier (pictured above) remains around the tree.
