    London Road towards Nottingham city centre has now reopened.

    It was closed because of a "police incident".

    Nottinghamshire Police, paramedics and an air ambulance are still at the scene and we have contacted the force for more information.

    A murderer who apologised to the man he wrongly killed before chasing and stabbing his intended target around a shop has been jailed for life.

    Reuben Morris-Laing, 21, was found outside the store on Robin Hood Street, in Nottingham, on 22 March, 2017, and later died in hospital.

    Remee Jarrett (below), 30, of Kelvedon Gardens, has been sentenced to a minimum term of 23 years. He pleaded guilty last month to three charges, including murder.

    Jarrett was also sentenced for attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon at Nottingham Crown Court.

    More than ten tonnes of donations were left out with the bins in a charity drive for the homeless.

    Residents in Rushcliffe were asked to leave non-perishable food, clothing and toiletries out next to their bins earlier this month.

    They were picked up by refuse collectors and taken to The Friary charity in West Bridgford.

    This is the second year Rushcliffe Borough Council has run the scheme but donations have trebled this year.

    Dave Banks, the council's neighbourhood manager, said: "Originally we set out to provide dry goods, toiletries that kind of thing, that is what The Friary had originally requested.

    "But residents have taken it on a stage and provided all sorts of clothing and blankets, I know The Friary will put it to good use."

    Officers are re-appealing for information about an arson and burglary which caused "extensive damage" to a house in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

    The elderly occupants of the property in Dalestorth Road were not at home when it happened.

    The fire service was called at 04:40 but Nottinghamshire Police said, external someone had broken in between 02:30 and 04:30 on 3 October.

    Officers have spoken to a 30-year-old in connection with this incident but they are no longer a subject of the inquiry.

    A teenager who survived the 2015 Tunisian terror attack, has been talking about her life since the ordeal.

    Millie Twells, 18 and from Ilkeston, was holidaying with her parents when a gunman attacked the beach resort in June, 2015, killing 38 people.

    She took refuge with other people in an office while attacker stalked the corridors.

    She said: "The room we hid in contained little children, people were banging on the doors to be let in, but we couldn't risk their lives."

    In the time since, she missed months of school and still suffers panic attacks and flashbacks to this day.

    Earlier this week, she told the Nottingham Post, external about her hopes to turn her life around by studying abroad.

    A campaign group has criticised a headteacher for banning pupils from cycling to and from school until they have completed their safety training.

    Ellis Guilford School in Basford has written to parents saying "too many students are not cycling responsibly and causing a danger to others".

    But Cycling UK says the move will stop kids getting active.

    Duncan Dollimore from the group said: "That is just a message that will leave the kids thinking, 'well I can't be bothered with doing this, I'm being singled out...I'll just get in the car and get dropped off'."

    Headteacher Sally Coulton says she is fed up of pupils cycling dangerously around the school.

    She said: "There are people driving cars, normal road users and people coming to collect their children...we have got a high volume of students walking to school...we are trying to manage all that situation."

    A 30ft tree which came down in high winds at Nottingham's Victoria Embankment could have killed someone, an expert said.

    James Shallcross, tree service manager at Nottingham City Council, said it was lucky the London plane "landed in open space" when it was brought down in strong winds on Wednesday night.

    He said: "The wind came from the north and blew it down to the south towards the river.

    "This meant it didn't fall on any property...if it landed on somebody or on a car, it would have flattened them and caused fatalities without a shadow of a doubt."

    The tree, planted about 150 years ago, was removed yesterday afternoon and will now be burnt as bio-mass at a power station.
