Nottingham's Nick Buckland and his partner Penny Coomes are through to the final day of the ice dance competition at the Winter Olympics.

The pair scored 68.36 in the short dance and finished 10th with the top 20 competing in Tuesday's free dance.

The pair's routine was choreographed by another of Nottingham's favourite sons, Christopher Dean, who won gold with Jayne Torvill in 1984.

Coomes and Buckland are making their third appearance at a Winter Games, two years after Coomes smashed her kneecap into eight pieces and was told she would never skate again.

They will now compete in the free dance on Tuesday, starting at 01:00 GMT, with the medals awarded to the pairs with the highest cumulative score over the two dances.

Castle Gate will be one way only for over four months, as Severn Trent starts the next stage of its work to improve sewers.

Neil Stevens, who owns a cafe in the town, said: "If they [shoppers] come into town and see that there are big traffic problems, which there can be in Newark anyway, they'll be put off from visiting."

Severn Trent has said it is working to minimise disruption and is putting on free shuttle buses.

The service, which will go live on 1 March, will allow for cashless payment.

The city council also hopes that it will be safer for passengers as journeys and drivers are logged in the app.

The colour of hackney cabs in the city is also changing, from dark green to black and white.

A small number of ultra low emission vehicles are also being ordered, as the city looks to improve air quality standards.

Councillor Toby Neal, from Nottingham City Council, said: "For too long, taxis have been the poor relation in Nottingham’s integrated transport network.

"That’s all changing now, with better customer standards, smart new vehicles and a brand new app to make it safe and easy for modern passengers to use the city’s large fleet of hackney cabs

"It means we will no longer have cabs churning out exhaust fumes while sitting in the rank, so it benefits everyone in the city, not just taxi passengers."
