A senior doctor at the Leicester Royal Infirmary has told an inquest that her department is "terribly, terribly sorry" after the death of a three-year-old boy with Down's syndrome.
Krishan Saujani died at the LRI in November 2015 from bronchial pneumonia.
He'd been diagnosed with dehydration and gastroenteritis on arrival at the hospital but was kept in the resuscitation area for about three hours before being moved on to the children’s assessment unit.
The events leading up to his death have already been investigated by the Crown Prosecution Service, which found there was no case to answer in terms of a criminal prosecution.
A coroner is now hearing the inquest into his death at Leicester's Town Hall.
