    The blaze was in the first floor kitchen of The Horn in Hand.

    Police in Derby have moved to reassure the public after a man was shot and a teenager and a man were stabbed in separate incidents over the weekend.

    Two men were arrested after a 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder in Coleridge Street in Sunny Hill on Friday.

    A 21-year-old man was stabbed in The Strand in Derby city centre in the early hours of Sunday and a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the leg in Clarence Road, Normanton on Sunday evening.

    Supt Tracy Harrison said: “Whilst we have had three serious incidents in the city during the course of the weekend I want to reassure you we are doing all we can to catch those responsible.

    “A number of people have been arrested in connection with the incident in Sunny Hill where a man was shot, and investigations are continuing."

    This was the scene at a Subway store in Littleover after it was hit by a car on Friday night.

    Derbyshire Police said a BMW crashed into two cars before ploughing through the front of the sandwich shop in Burton Road at about 20:00.

    The 33-year-old driver suffered minor head injuries but no-one from the two other cars or inside the shop was hurt. There were no arrests.

    Derbyshire Police are investigating, external after a peregrine nest vanished from a rocky perch in the Peak District.

    The force's wildlife unit said the nest, which was subject to monitoring, had "completely disappeared" from a site near Bakewell in the past few days.

    Peregrines are a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and to kill or injure one is a criminal offence.

    Friends of a 27-year-old woman who died when she fell from a hotel balcony in Benidorm have returned to the resort on the first anniversary of her death.

    Kirsty Maxwell had been on a hen party when the tragedy happened a year ago.

    Four of her friends have been putting up posters, handing out flyers and talking to people to try to solve the mystery of why she fell.

    Five men from Nottingham, who were in the room she fell from, were questioned by Spanish police but never charged.

    David Swindle, a former detective assisting Kirsty's family, told Newsbeat he felt the key to solving the mystery of her death lay with the Nottingham men.

    An opposition councillor has accused the leadership of Leicestershire County Council of wasting taxpayers' money after they refused to support Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaigners.

    The WASPI campaign group is fighting against changes which mean women born in the 1950s won't be able to claim until they turn 65.

    Lib Dem Cllr Linda Broadley asked her colleagues at County Hall in December to sign a letter to central government pledging the council's support for the campaign.

    But arguments erupted in the council chamber with the Conservatives refusing to show their support as the changes would see working-age people forced to cover the £30 billion shortfall.

    The authority has now said it will raise the issue in Westminster through an all-party parliamentary group set up to look at state pension inequality. But Ms Broadley said the row has rumbled on for too long and the council should have simply shown its support in the first place.

    She said: "The way it's carrying on is a waste of ratepayers' money. All this should be about is the WASPI campaign."

    These four hedgehogs are set for a taste of freedom when they get released next week.

    The quartet have spent the winter being cared for by students at Derby College's Broomfield Hall and will be set free on 8 May to coincide with National Hedgehog Week.

    The two females and two males, named Pickles, Nibbles, Sonic and Tiny Tim, were taken in from an animal hospital in October as they were too small to hibernate.

    Police investigating the stabbing of two teenagers in The Meadows area of Nottingham have arrested three people.

    A 17-year-old was stabbed in his back and leg and a 19-year-old man was stabbed in the leg at around 17:45 on Tuesday last week.

    Their injuries are not thought the be life-threatening but they were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.

    A dog walker was taken to hospital with serious injuries, external after being knocked to the ground and kicked, punched and stamped on by a group of up to 11 men and women in Matlock.

    Derbyshire Police said the 35-year-old man was attacked from behind when he ignored a shout from the group near the Matlock Green Scout Hut in Butts Drive on 18 April.

    A 20-year-old man has since been arrested and released on police bail and an 18-year-old man has been arrested and released while investigations continue.

    Police have appealed for witnesses to the "unprovoked and sustained" assault.

    A cyclist-friendly bin lorry has been introduced to serve parts of Nottinghamshire.

    Rushcliffe Borough Council has invested in a new 26 tonne Dennis Elite vehicle that features cycle sensors alerting drivers to keep a safe distance when overtaking those on two wheels.

    It also alerts cyclists with visual and audio warnings when the vehicle is turning left in front of them.

    The authority said it hoped to add more cyclist-friendly vehicles to the fleet in the future.

    Nottingham-based hobby miniatures company Games Workshop has been celebrating the 40th anniversary of its inception.

    The firm began with a single store in West London in 1978 but relocated its entire UK operations to Lenton in 1997, external.

    A 16-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car on the A6 in Birstall yesterday.

    A grey Audi A3 collided with the teenager close to the junction with Johnson Road. He was taken to hospital in Nottingham but died as a result of his injuries.

    The driver of the Audi has not been arrested.
