    A Nottinghamshire man has been charged with murder after a man died after an assault outside a Whitby pizza takeaway.

    It happened early on 24 February and the 47-year-old victim was taken to hospital but died four days later.

    A 28-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court on Monday.

    A van has hit a train barrier in Newark, causing delays to traffic.

    Traffic is queuing and people are crowding around the barrier outside Newark Castle on Great North Road - with some reportedly jumping over it despite trains still passing through.

    Network Rail said it happened at 16:00 and in a statement given shortly after 17:00 said engineers were on their way to assess the damage.

    A teenager killed by a drink driver on the Lincoln bypass has been described as "beautiful" by her family.

    In their first interview since her death, Sian's father Dave and sister Jenny, from South Clifton, near Lincoln, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire they'd been overwhelmed by messages of support.

    Jacobs, who's 26 and of Lindholme Road, Lincoln, was jailed for seven years at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday for causing death by dangerous driving.

    Storm Gareth has seen heavy winds sweep across the region this week.

    A number of fallen trees have been keeping Leicestershire County Council's highways team busy this afternoon as they worked to clear debris from the roads.

    An NHS hospital trust has apologised to a woman who suffered avoidable complications after an ectopic pregnancy.

    Jamie Hockey, from Leicester, had to have one of her fallopian tubes removed following a three-day delay in surgery.

    This meant she had to have an emergency procedure as it was too late for keyhole surgery. She has been left with a large scar and lost a lot of blood.

    She said: "It was a very scary experience."

    An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.

    The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has apologised and said it will learn lessons from this.

    Police have set up a knife arch at the exit of Market Harborough train station today.

    Two officers are scanning people coming in and out of the station in a bid to crack down on knife crime.

    A chemical spill in a classroom briefly closed a Nottingham city centre road this afternoon.

    Two fire engines were called out to Nottingham College on Maid Marian Way shortly after 14:30.

    Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also requested an environmental protection unit - but this was ultimately not needed.

    There are currently no reports of injuries. The road was blocked northbound from Canal Street but has now reopened.

    Two men have been jailed for their role in running a prostitution ring.

    Geza Horvath (pictured right), 33, of Borough Road, Burton, was jailed for five years and Daniel Zemencsik (left), 28, of Uttoxeter New Road, Derby, was handed three years and two months at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday.

    Derbyshire Police said the pair set up the ring between May 2017 and April last year and advertised for sex workers on various Hungarian websites.

    They brought over a number of women who were forced to work as prostitutes, pay the men a daily rate as well as half their earnings.

    Both men pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another with a view to exploitation.

    A woman whose two chihuahuas were taken from a car park has offered a £1,000 reward for their safe return.

    Katy Mercer, who lives in Sutton Cheney with her husband Fraser and six other dogs, left Dinky and Doris in the back of her Mercedes GLE while shopping in Sainsbury's in Hinckley yesterday - only to find they had gone when she got home.

    She added: "[Leaving dogs in the car] is something I've done hundreds of times with them and my other dogs over the past 20 years and I just don't think anything of it."

    She says she called out to them when she got back to her car at about 18:30 to no response, which she said was normal, and only noticed they were missing when she opened the boot at home.

    Both dogs have medical issues - Doris is epileptic and requires medication, and Dinky has a luxating patella, which means her kneecaps dislocate easily - so Mrs Mercer is desperate for them to be returned safely.

    Mrs Mercer added: "I'm heartbroken. I can't have children so my dogs are my kids."

    Police are currently investigating.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of having a bladed weapon following an altercation in Nottingham, external.

    The men, aged 18 and 20, were also questioned on suspicion of a public order offence after being detained in Alfreton Road on Tuesday evening.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the teenager was additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis.

    The pair have been released while further investigations are carried out.

    Three rivers and one brook in the East Midlands are at risk of bursting their banks after heavy wind and rains.

    The government monitors the water levels and have put out an amber flood alert, external for the Lower River Soar in Leicestershire, the River Trent, River Wye and the Bottle Brook in Derbyshire.
