An election candidate who has been suspended from the Labour party over alleged anti-Semitism has apologised for "insensitive" social media posts.
The Times reported that Neil Ploughman, a candidate for Amber Valley District Council elections, said anti-Semitism was "anything Israel wants it to mean".
Labour said he had been suspended "pending a thorough investigation".
In a statement Mr Ploughman apologised and said he has been "a lifelong campaigner against racism".
Before the comments on social media were highlighted, Mr Ploughman was standing for Labour in Belper Central at the elections taking place on 2 May.
On an election leaflet he was also listed as the chairman of Unison's Derbyshire branch.
Unison previously said Mr Ploughman was no longer a member, but the trade union has since admitted it made an error.

A Derby man says one of his cousins was killed in the Easter Sunday bomb attacks in Sri Lanka.
Peter Anthony, who grew up in Colombo but now lives in Allenton, said his relative was among scores of people killed in a blast at St Anthony's Church in the Sri Lankan capital.
He told BBC Radio Derby: "One of our cousins went to the church on that day and they've found his body. It's not fair what they've done to innocent people."
Mr Anthony said he was still awaiting news on whether other friends and family members in Sri Lanka have been affected due to the current social media blackout there.

The South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has said he feels "hugely disappointed" that his constituency office was targeted by vandals.
Stickers saying "disobey" have been put all over the glass front and a notice stuck to the door.
A message in chalk was also written on the pavement outside.
Alberto Costa believes the damage to the office in Blaby was an attempt to intimidate him and his staff - something he has called "wholly unacceptable".
