    Officers carrying out a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Leicester remain at the scene today.

    The woman, who has not yet been formally identified by police, died in a house on Bartholomew Street yesterday morning after she was found with serious injuries.

    Neighbours have said their thoughts are with the woman's three young children.

    There have so far been no arrests and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

    Rebekah Vardy, wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, has denied selling stories from Coleen Rooney's private Instagram account to tabloid newspapers.

    Rooney (left), who is married to Derby County-bound Wayne Rooney, said she has spent five months attempting to work out who was leaking information about her and her family based on information she had posted on her personal account.

    She claimed she worked out it was I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! star Vardy through a process of elimination.

    Vardy responded to the claims on Twitter, saying she wishes Rooney had spoken to her directly about her suspicion as she would have changed the password to her account.

    She added: "Over the years various people have had access to my Insta and just this week I found I was following people I didn't know or have never followed myself.

    "I'm not being funny but I don't need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you [Rooney]?

    "I'm disgusted that I'm even having to deny this. You should've called me the first time it happened."

    An area of land in Nottingham has become a "magnet for industrial fly-tipping", according to the city council.

    Huge piles of waste are currently scattered over the Blenheim Industrial Estate in Bulwell.

    A Nottingham City Council spokesman said: "We're aware of an issue at this site.

    "The land is on a long-term lease to a business which has been struggling and unfortunately, given its location, has become a magnet for industrial fly-tipping."

    The authority has secured funding to install CCTV cameras on Dabell Avenue. It's hoped this will deter those dumping rubbish.

    They're working with Broxtowe Borough Council to arrange the removal of the waste.

    A 17-year-old boy charged with the murder of teenager Joshua Taylor has appeared in court.

    The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court charged with murder and possession of a knife.

    He is due at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow.

    Leicestershire Police said the 18-year-old died on Monday morning in Sword Drive, Hinckley.

    He was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination found he died of a single stab wound.

    A robber who beat a female shop worker with a hammer has been jailed for nine years, external.

    Kosav Mohammadi attacked the woman at the Best One store in Derby Road, Lenton, at about 23:00 on 1 May.

    Her injuries included a slash wound to her knee and to her arm, cuts to her head and injuries to her throat and neck.

    The attack was broken up when a shopper entered the store, saw Mohammadi standing over the victim on the ground and called 999.

    The 26-year-old, of Dexter Road, Derby, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, assault with intent to rob, having an article with a blade or point and having an offensive weapon at Nottingham Crown Court.

    Det Con Steven Fenyn said: "I'd like to commend the victim for her immense bravery and the member of the public for his assistance and helping us to swiftly identify and detain this dangerous offender."

    Administrators say they are "delighted" after an agreement was reached for Thomas Cook's retail estate to be bought by rival holiday firm Hays Travel.

    It comes after Thomas Cook, which was founded in Leicester, collapsed in September.

    The move could save up to 2,500 jobs, and Hays has already hired 421 former Thomas Cook staff.

    KPMG and joint special manager of Thomas Cook's estate, Jim Tucker, said: "This is an extremely positive outcome, and we are delighted to have secured this agreement.

    "It provides re-employment opportunities for a significant number of former Thomas Cook employees, and secures the future of retail sites up and down the UK High Street."

    The firm’s collapse saw 150,000 customers returned to the UK, the biggest ever peacetime repatriation.

    The family of an 86-year-old man who died in a crash in Derbyshire last month, external have described him as "a really good man".

    Roy Bickerton, from New Mills, was a passenger in a Skoda Fabia that was involved in a crash with a lorry on Buxton Road, New Mills, on 23 September.

    Derbyshire Police said the crash claimed the life of a second passenger - an 82-year-old man - while an 84-year-old woman was critically injured and the 89-year-old male driver was taken to hospital.

    In a statement, Mr Bickerton's family said: "Roy was a dear husband, father, father-in-law, grandad, great-grandad and so much more.

    "He has been tragically taken away from us and we didn't get to say goodbye."

    Police said the 24-year-old lorry driver was spoken to at the scene but no arrests had been made.

    Wirksworth Infant School is to stay closed today due to disruption to gas supplies in the area.

    Derbyshire County Council said a number of homes and businesses in the town were without gas after water got into a gas main.

    School bosses said they would keep parents updated on when it will reopen after speaking to emergency services.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the arsonist appears to have smashed their way in through the front window of the Woodhouse Road eatery.

    The 18-year-old was found injured in Sword Drive at around 00:55 BST.

    A school principal is hoping to track down an elderly woman who was helped by a group of children when she fell over.

    Last Wednesday, five Year 8 pupils from Retford Oaks Academy were walking home from school when they saw the woman fall by the canal near Asda.

    Ollie Law, Alexander Sellers, Kayla Hall, Harry Plumber and Sam Brooks helped the woman back to her feet and helped her husband with the shopping bags they were carrying.

    Christopher West said: "I'm extremely proud - it's what we expect to see from our pupils."

    Mr West wants to award them for their "outstanding act" and would like the woman they helped to present it to them in a special assembly.

    An estimated £500,000 worth of suspected stolen property, including trailers, generators and a fork lift truck, have been recovered from a Derbyshire farm.

    Police raided the property in Longcliffe on Monday and also found drugs and tobacco.

    A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft of plant equipment and possessing drugs but has been released under investigation.

    Officers said they were attempting to find the rightful owners of the equipment.

    A magnet fisher has pulled a cage containing a dead cat from the bottom of a Leicestershire canal.

    The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the fisher contacted them about his find in the Grand Union Canal in Newton Harcourt, near Great Glen, on Saturday.

    Officers believe the male, black cat, which had not been neutered or microchipped, may have been alive when it was dumped in the water and may not have long been in the water.

    The trap is the kind used to contain cats and are often used to rescue them or to trap feral cats so they can be neutered, according to the charity.

    Anyone who has seen anything suspicious around the canal recently has been asked to get in touch with the RSPCA.
