A union will hold "last ditch" talks with Wilko in an attempt to avoid strike action at the High Street store's distribution centres.
About 1,800 staff are due to walk out of distribution centres in Worksop, and Magor in Wales, over four days in October.
GMB members voted for strikes as a result of "brutal" new rotas, which saw staff working weekends more regularly.
But the union is due to speak with Wilko management at its headquarters.
Union officer Gary Carter said: "We dearly hope we come away from these talks with a deal fit to put to our members.
"None of them want to take this crippling industrial action, but they’ve been backed into a corner by a contract that will impose on their family time and wellbeing."

The outside lane of the A52 heading into Derby is to close today and tomorrow for emergency repairs.
The city council said work on gulleys would be carried out between the Fireplace Showroom and Pentagon Island from 09:30 to 15:30 on both days, external.
It follows months of disruption along the same stretch due to the construction of a new slip road from the A52 to the Wyvern retail park.

Recorded knife crime has fallen in Nottinghamshire, the county's force has said.
Nottinghamshire Police said, external there had been a reduction of 8.7%.
It comes after a BBC investigation revealed Nottingham was one of the 25 most dangerous places in England and Wales for serious knife crime.
According to Nottinghamshire Police, offences fell from 882 to 805 in the 12 months up to the end of September 2019.
The force said education programmes at primary and secondary schools have contributed to the reduction.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: "Nottinghamshire Police treats knife crime extremely seriously and has a track record of investing resources in tackling the issue.
"We have a dedicated knife crime team who have a high positive outcome rate from stop and search activity because of their intelligence-led approach."

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after another man was hit on the head with a hammer.
The attack happened after an argument in Cherry Orchard Mount, Bestwood Park, at 15:07 on Monday - close to Glade Hill Primary School.
The 33-year-old victim was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, but his injuries were not life-threatening or life-altering.
The suspect remains in police custody.
Det Sgt Simon Carter said: "It happened at a busy time outside Glade Hill Primary School so will have been witnessed by a number of people and we need to speak to them as soon as possible to establish the full circumstances."

An investigation has been launched after an inmate died at HMP Leicester.
The Prison Service confirmed Jonathan Jones died at the jail on Saturday.
The 43-year-old was due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
But the court said the case has now been adjourned after his passing to allow time for formal identification to take place.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "As with all deaths in custody, there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."

Police say they believe a body found in the Ashby area yesterday afternoon, external is missing man Derek Seary.
The 56-year-old had been missing from the Coalville area since Sunday.
The force said formal identification had still to take place.

Three men arrested over a suspected assault in Derbyshire on Sunday have been released after police said they had "concluded that no attack took place".
Police were called to reports of an assault outside the Premier Store in Market Place, South Normanton just before 21:00 on Sunday.
However a police spokesman said they were now satisfied the three men "were not involved in what happened and have been released from custody".
They said a 32-year-old man who made the allegation remains in hospital but his injuries are not serious and are not as a result of being assaulted.

Officers want to speak to this man after a taxi driver reported being punched and headbutted by a passenger who then stole a wallet from the cab.
The driver, in his 40s, was taken to hospital, but was discharged later the same day.
The attack happened at about 7:30 on Aikman Avenue near Kay Road in Leicester and today police released this image as part of their investigation.

A man has been arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of escaping lawful custody.
Last week Derbyshire Police put out an appeal to find Rees Adamson, who they said had failed to return to HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire after being granted day release.
