    A man has been given an indeterminate hospital order after admitting a string of child sex offences.

    Simon Limb pleaded guilty to 18 counts - including sexual assault on a child under 13, causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in a sexual act and possessing prohibited images of children - when appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

    After the 30-year-old, of Corporation Oaks in St Ann's, was arrested in November 2018 for historic child sexual offences, officers found hundreds of images on his phone.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the offending took place against two girls between 2006 and 2010, and 2015 and 2018.

    He has also been made the subject of a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

    The Central England Co-op has condemned an attack on a worker who was knocked unconscious by a man who then stole his mobile phone.

    Leicestershire Police were called to the Co-op's Markfield Food Store on Main Street to a report of an assault at 15:40 on Friday.

    It was reported a man had been "verbally aggressive" to another man before pushing him, causing him to lose consciousness.

    Police said the suspect then took the victim's mobile phone before leaving the scene.

    The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital and later discharged.

    Coronavirus testing is being ramped up in Oadby and Wigston – the Leicestershire area with the highest infection rate outside of the city.

    More than 9,000 households in Oadby and Wigston will receive a leaflet and a text from their GP telling them to get tested, whether they have symptoms or not.

    Leicestershire County Council's public health department says figures for the borough shows there are 712 cases per 100,000 people.

    Although significantly lower than Leicester – where there are 1,116 per 100,000 people – it is much higher than the county average, which is 431.

    A cockerel has been found abandoned in a box next to the River Trent in Nottingham.

    The RSPCA said it was found by a member of the public in Victoria Embankment on the morning of 27 June.

    The striking bird has now been placed in a specialist caring facility and, if no owner comes forward, will be rehomed.

    RSPCA inspector Helen Mead said: “In the box with the bird was a blue plastic bag which contained some seeds and raw red meat in it.

    "Thankfully this handsome bird is well. It’s so sad that he was abandoned like this in such a defenceless position."

    She said the cockerel was found by chance by a woman cycling past.

    Roads will be closed around Nottingham's Broadmarsh Centre from next month as work begins on a new "gateway" into the city.

    From the weekend of 8 and 9 August, Collin Street will be closed to all traffic, Middle Hill will be open two ways and the traffic flow will be reversed on Greyfriar Gate.

    In addition, Canal Street will become a two-way restricted area for buses and wheelchair accessible taxis between Middle Hill and Greyfriar Gate.

    The city council said the creation of the new pedestrianised public space, external around the Broadmarsh involved the most significant changes to the city centre road layout for 15 years.

    The redevelopment of the Broadmarsh Centre stalled when owners Intu went into administration.

    Councillor David Mellen, leader of the city council, said: "The city council has long been committed to a transformation of the Broadmarsh area to extend the city centre southwards, creating a fantastic new public space for residents of Nottingham and visitors to the city.

    "While we are continuing to find a way forward for intu Broadmarsh, it's important that we move ahead with the rest of our exciting and transformational plans for the area."

    Derby City Council is one of a number of local authorities drafting in bailiffs again to secure unpaid business rates from companies, after enforcement action was put on hold during the coronavirus lockdown.

    It comes days after Chancellor Rishi Sunak set out the latest phase of the government's plan to protect jobs.

    Bailiffs are instructed by councils, once a liability order has been obtained in a magistrates court, to collect outstanding business rates, and will be able to enter businesses to seize goods and sell these at auction to settle the debt.

    Derby City Council said it has "several thousand business ratepayers who are behind with their payments".

    The owner of a beauty salon fears her industry could be forgotten about as the lockdown restrictions continue to prevent them from reopening.

    Natalie Godefroy runs a salon in Market Harborough that specialises in eyebrow treatments and other procedures carried out on the face.

    Last week the government announced salons could reopen on Monday - but with restrictions.

    Ms Godefroy said: "I was overwhelmed [at the news], I cried with joy but as more information came through I was made aware there were some restrictions in place."

    The new rules allow salons to reopen but forbids treatments on the face which are considered "high risk " for spreading coronavirus.

    Ms Godefroy said she's "incredibly frustrated" this means she cannot reopen.

    "I totally understand the reasons why these are in place, I'm not disputing that at all, work on the face is high risk," she said.

    But she added her clients are keen to return to the salon.

    "It gives such well-being and we've been through such a terrible, emotional time, people want that normality back," she said.

    "To not be able to open my doors to my clients is devastating."

    Plans are under way to make Nottingham a "creative global leader" following the coronavirus pandemic.

    The Nottingham Project has been launched to help rejuvenate the city through arts and culture within 10 years.

    Its board includes BAFTA winner Vicky McClure and is being led by former London 2012 organising committee director Greg Nugent.

    Mr Nugent said the project was important because the pandemic has had a negative impact on the creative and cultural sector.

    Vice-chair Vicky McClure said: "What our city needs is not only a way to rejuvenate itself post Covid-19 but a plan to come back stronger than ever before."

    The project is supported by Nottingham City Council, Arts Council England, Nottingham BID, and both city universities.

    Plans will be drawn up over the summer with the help of the city's residents.

    Three men will appear in court this morning in connection with a reported pub fight on Saturday.

    Leicestershire Police said they were called at about 19:00 after "a number of reports of a fight" on Wood Street in Earl Shilton.

    Two men - aged 25 and 32 - have been charged with one count of possession of an offensive weapon, one count of affray and two counts of wounding with intent, while a 31-year-old has also been charged with burglary on top of the other offences.

    All three men are set to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court.
