    An attack which left an 18-year-old injured and an 81-year-old in hospital has prompted an appeal from police.

    The teenager was chased into the Lidl Store in Upperton Road, Leicester, between 16:00 and 16:30 on 26 September and assaulted by two men.

    The victim suffered non-serious facial injuries but during the chase the elderly man was knocked over and suffered serious injuries.

    He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

    Police said the two suspects were reported to be with two girls and asked anyone who recognises any of the group to get in touch.

    A police pursuit of a car in Derby has resulted in an arrest and an officer needing stitches.

    Shortly after 19:00 yesterday, a suspected stolen Audi was spotted on the A38 at Little Eaton.

    After it was followed for a time, police used a stinger to puncture the tyres but the vehicle drove on.

    It collided with a police car and another car before stopping on the carriageway near Coxbench.

    A 29-year-old man from Bristol was arrested on suspicion of stealing the Audi, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

    During the arrest, an officer sustained cuts to his arm from broken glass and was taken to hospital for treatment.

    A man is being treated in hospital after police said he was slashed while defending his family from armed burglars.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to Holly Road in Watnall at about 00:10 this morning, where they said the man confronted two intruders and was "attacked with a bladed weapon".

    The man's wife was bruised and their son suffered a "minor cut" to his face, a force spokesman said.

    The house was "ransacked" and items are believed to have been stolen. Police also recovered two knives from the scene.

    No arrests have been made yet and officers are appealing for information.

    A suspected explosive device has been found at a building site in Nottinghamshire, police have said.

    Officers were called to London Road in Balderton just after 09:15.

    A cordon has been put in place and police are enlisting a specialist team to examine the device, believed to be a World War Two shell.

    No homes have been evacuated, police said.

    A section of London Road between the Newark Academy and Lidl supermarket were closed but have since reopened.

    Traffic was disrupted on a busy Derbyshire road earlier by a large concrete block.

    Highways England said they were called to the A38 between the Markeaton and Kingsway junctions at about 09:00 to reports of debris in the southbound road.

    They found the block, measuring roughly 1 sq m, in the carriageway and closed a lane to have it removed.

    Officers said it had apparently fallen off the back of a vehicle.

    It was hoisted on to another lorry for removal.

    They added the carriageway would be reopened after the surface had been checked for damage.

    No, not an alien invasion - this beacon of light was shone over Leicester last night to mark 100 days of local lockdown measures in the city.

    Curve Theatre, said in a social media post the laser, which was shone from the Rutland Street venue, marked the milestone for "our brilliant city and its resilient communities".

    Extra restrictions came into force in Leicester on 29 June and have not yet been fully lifted.

    The local lockdown restrictions have left Leicester as a place where "you can check out but you can never leave", according to the shadow health secretary.

    Jonathan Ashworth, Labour MP for Leicester South, referenced the Eagles' classic Hotel California in criticising the conditions, saying the government must listen to residents and let them know what it will take to lift the limits.

    Yesterday was 100 days since the local lockdown was put in place around Leicester.

    Mr Ashworth said: "I just don't think the response from ministers has been satisfactory, and it does feel now like they've slightly forgotten us. Leicester is Hotel California - you can check out but you can never leave, but enough is enough."

    A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care told the BBC the government was constantly reviewing epidemiological evidence.

    "This is a crucial moment as we tackle coronavirus and the restrictions in place delicately balance local views, public health advice, and the economy," the spokesperson added.

    Plans to cut 51 jobs at East Midlands Airport have been announced by its parent group MAG.

    The company, which also owns Manchester and Stansted airports, said it needed to reduce employee costs due to the coronavirus pandemic's impact on the aviation industry.

    It also plans to cut 465 staff at Manchester Airport and 376 roles at Stansted.

    Chief executive Charlie Cornish said: "By now, we would have hoped to see a strong and sustained recovery in demand.

    A Nottinghamshire pub has received a fixed penalty notice after accepting a booking for a 34-person birthday party, external.

    Rushcliffe Borough Council said The White Horse in Ruddington agreed to the booking on 26 September after initially refusing a booking for 72 people.

    The business was handed a £1,000 fine after admitting its mistake, halved to £500 when it was paid within 14 days.
