Fines totalling £17,000 have been issued to a tearoom and Christian bookshop that was refusing to close during lockdown.

The Mustard Seed in Gedling has referenced "common law" and the Magna Carta in its justification for remaining open.

On Saturday police and Gedling Borough Council visited and saw the business was "locked with a large number of people inside".

Two men were arrested - one has since been charged with obstructing a police officer and breaching Covid-19 regulations.

The council said it has now issued four fixed penalty notices for failing to comply with the regulations set out by the government.

The leader of the authority John Clarke said: "We have tried to work with this business but unfortunately they have continually ignored our warnings and national regulations and persisted to remain open.

"They have left us with no other choice but to use enforcement action against them, seeking support from the courts to secure immediate closure."

Two thieves have been caught on CCTV breaking into a couple's new motorhome before driving it away.

Nottinghamshire Police said the Pilote model, one of only about 10 in the UK, was stolen from a driveway, in High Street, Gringley on the Hill, on Friday evening.

The owners, who have not been named, planned to travel across the UK and further afield as part of their retirement plans, police said.

They said: "The motorhome was delivered in August and we enjoyed three wonderful trips before the pandemic started to hit hard again and our plans for travelling were again put on hold.

"We are devastated that all our hard work, our plans and our dreams have been taken away so easily."

The CCTV footage shows two men arriving at the scene before trying, and failing, to disable the camera.

After breaking into the vehicle they spend several minutes interfering with the ignition before getting it started and driving it away.

Police have appealed for help in tracking down the vehicle and reuniting it with the couple.

CCTV footage showed 63 times carers did not wear the right PPE when looking after residents at a care home in Hinckley.

Care Quality Commission inspectors visited the Ashton Care Home in August and reviewed recordings over four days.

They witnessed staff failing to wear the appropriate PPE or wearing masks around their necks as they assisted people living at the home.

On three occasions, staff were seen putting medicines directly into people's mouths without wearing gloves, aprons, or washing their hands.

"This placed people at significant risk of harm from infections and increased the potential risks from Covid-19," inspectors said.

The home, in John Street, had 56 residents when the CQC inspected. It was rated inadequate and placed in special measures by the team.

A spokesperson for the home said: "We are making strong and swift progress and are on track to bring the home back to the high standards that we expect and that the individuals we support deserve."
