    A 15-year-old boy remains in hospital after being hit by a police car in the early hours of this morning.

    Leicestershire Police said the Skoda Octavia was on a routine patrol when the crash happened in Belvoir Road, Coalville, at about 01:45.

    The boy is in a stable condition with leg injuries that have been described as not life-threatening or life-changing. The two officers inside the car were uninjured.

    Leicestershire Police's professional standards department has been notified of the crash, which led to Belvoir Road being closed at its junction with Ashby Road while investigations were carried out.

    Witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage have been urged to contact the force.

    A cyclist has died in a crash with a lorry in South Normanton.

    Derbyshire Police said the man, who was in his 40s, died at the scene following the collision in Farmwell Lane at about 05:15 on Wednesday.

    The 41-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released while inquiries continue.

    A man has been arrested after a stabbing sparked a stand-off with police in Wigston.

    Leicestershire Police were called to Bull Head Street at 05:14 this morning to a report of a man stabbed at the address.

    A man was found with a stab wound to the arm and taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

    Two people at the address refused to leave the property, the force said, and trained negotiators were deployed.

    Police said a woman - who was also inside - was taken to a place of safety.

    Nottingham Castle has closed to the public today "due to unforeseen circumstances".

    Sara Blair-Manning, chief executive officer at Nottingham Castle Trust, confirmed the closure was due to "a problem with an internal fixture at the Ducal Palace".

    She apologised for the inconvenience to visitors and said full refunds or alternative dates have been offered to those who had booked to come to the attraction.

    The visitor centre, shop and coffee shop remain open from 10:00 to 17:00 and visitors do not need a ticket to enter those areas.

    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed at a bus stop in Mansfield.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the victim, a man in his 40s, sustained multiple stab wounds at the bus stop in Jubilee Way South at about 21:40 on Wednesday.

    A police cordon was placed around the scene and a property in nearby Eckington Walk has also been taped off as part of the investigation.

    Det Insp Nick Hall said: "This was a very serious assault which has left a man with severe injuries.

    "We have been working through the night to investigate what happened and to locate a suspect, who we believe may have been known to the victim.

    "We are working to understand the exact sequence of events in the moments leading up to this attack, which we believe happened around 20 minutes before an emergency call was made."

    He appealed for any witnesses, or anyone who came to the victim's aid, to come forward.

    Derbyshire Dales District Council has suspended garden waste collections for four weeks from Monday.

    The authority said the move would allow five drivers "to focus instead on catching up with missed collections of household waste and recycling".

    At a meeting on Tuesday, councillors also agreed to provide the costs for leasing another vehicle to help cater for more subscribers to its garden waste service until 31 March next year.

    Earlier this month some recycling bins went uncollected for weeks amid a national shortage of lorry drivers.

    Mountain rescuers were on hand to help after a woman was injured when she slipped and fell near stepping stones in Dovedale.

    Derby Mountain Rescue Team said they were called out at 14:30 on Monday to help the woman, who suffered suspected fractures to her ankle and wrist.

    An off-duty first responder from Lincoln had initially come to her aid but also slipped, injuring her leg and hip.

    Both women were treated at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance.

    A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a van in Loughborough this morning.

    Leicestershire Police were called to the crash, involving a white Citroen van and a black Honda motorcycle, on the A6 Derby Road near the junction with Warwick Way at about 11:15.

    The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, died at the scene, the force said.

    Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone who has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the crash.

    A 36-year-old man has told officers he was at the Royal Crown on Cavan Drive at about 21:30 on Friday 11 June when he saw a group of men fighting.

    He said he was then punched in the throat, causing him to struggle to breathe and cough up blood.

    He later went to hospital and said he has since found it difficult to speak.

    Anyone with any information has been urged to contact Derbyshire Police.

    A 39-year-old man has been jailed for 14 years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting four girls.

    Leicestershire Police said Gareth Berry committed the offences at addresses in Leicester and Northampton between 2011 and 2016 and that the youngest victim was just 12 years old when Berry began abusing her.

    An investigation began in 2016 when two victims reported the abuse to police.

    Two other victims also then identified themselves to police.

    Berry, of Houldsworth Crescent in Coventry, denied the allegations but following a trial at Leicester Crown Court he was found guilty of 12 counts relating to child sexual abuse.

    In addition to his prison sentence Berry was given an extra year on extended licence, an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has been placed on the sex offenders register for life.

    Det Raj Pahal, from Leicestershire Police, said: “All four victims were children when Berry began abusing them.

    "He took advantage of them for his own sexual gratification in the belief that they wouldn’t tell anyone about what he was doing.

    “However, as they got older they realised what had happened and reported his crimes to police."

    A woman has been rescued from a river in Derby by police officers and firefighters.

    Derbyshire Police said they were called to the River Derwent at Haslams Lane on Tuesday at 00:45.

    Officers said a member of the public could see a woman in the water who appeared to be in difficulty.

    A spokeswoman for the force said: "We dispatched officers to the scene and contacted the fire and ambulance services.

    "Officers entered the water and held on to the woman to stop her from being swept away.

    "Firefighters then arrived and pulled the woman to safety."

    She was then taken to hospital by paramedics, police added.
