    Filming of a new BBC drama set in a Nottinghamshire mining village is now under way.

    David Morrissey, Robert Glenister and Lesley Manville will star in Sherwood, a six-episode show written by James Graham, whose previous work includes Quiz and Brexit: An Uncivil War.

    Graham grew up in Sutton-in-Ashfield and the story is inspired by the 2004 manhunt for two killers in north Nottinghamshire.

    Other cast members include Joanne Froggatt, Alun Armstrong and Adeel Akhtar.

    Morrissey will play Det Ch Supt Ian St Clair, who is forced to reunite with his old rival, Det Insp Kevin Salisbury, played by Glenister.

    Armstrong will play a striking miner with Manville cast as his wife.

    The partner of Adam Peaty has spoken of her pride after he etched his name into the sporting history books once again at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

    The Loughborough-based swimmer, who lives with Eiri Munro and their son George, won Britain's first gold medal and became the first-ever Team GB swimmer to defend an Olympic title.

    He cruised to victory in the 100m breaststroke in the early hours of this morning.

    Ms Munro - who watched the event with an "excited" George - said: "He just takes it all in his stride. I don't know anyone else who can do it, but I think he's built for it.

    "I just want to give him a big hug, because that's what I'm dying to do."

    An image has been released of a young man police wish to talk to in connection with an assault on two officers.

    Derbyshire Police said the two PCs were dealing with antisocial behaviour and drinking in Gallows Inn playing fields, off Ilkeston Road, Ilkeston, on 15 May when they were approached by a youth.

    A short time later, one of the officers was struck to the side of the head with a bottle and had her hair pulled violently during a subsequent struggle.

    The second officer was also hit several times, including a kick to the head, while assisting his colleague.

    Police have asked anyone who recognises the person in the image to contact them.

    Thirty ram sculptures that have been brightening up the streets of Derby are set to be auctioned off.

    The individually-decorated pieces, which celebrate the city's mascot, the ram, will be on display until 22 August.

    They will then go under the hammer in September to raise money for Derby Museums.

    Auctioneer Charles Hanson said: "These unique public artworks are spectacular. They've done wonders to brighten up the city this summer and lift spirits after 18 months of lockdowns.

    "As well as raising money for our museums, they remind us of Derbyshire's rich heritage."

    The Ram Trail sculptures will be sold in a live-streamed auction at the Italian Mill at the Museum of Making in Derby on 9 September.

    Police are trying to trace a "good Samaritan" who helped a man who nearly lost his hand in a machete attack this morning.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the man was attacked with the weapon in Sutton-in-Ashfield in a fight at about 01:30.

    He was rushed to hospital by a passing motorist after being found with wounds to his wrist and leg on Mansfield Road.

    The force said his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

    A 29-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody.

    Det Sgt Matt Scott said: "We are satisfied the two men are known to each other and there was no wider threat to the community."

    The force is also seeking to identify the passer-by, as it is believed they may have information that could help the investigation.

    A woman was assaulted and held captive in the car she was travelling in along the A60 in Nottinghamshire, police said.

    Officers said they received a call from a woman reporting an assault at about 07:30 on Tuesday.

    The call was ended abruptly but she was able to give a rough location and a silver Audi A4 was pulled over on Mansfield Road in Daybrook.

    A man, 37, was arrested on suspicion of assault, false imprisonment and making threats to kill.

    It's thought the car had travelled from the Radford area along the A60 towards Papplewick before turning around and travelling back in the direction of Nottingham.

    Det Con Sean Parker, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a very serious incident and we are determined to do all we can to investigate what happened.

    "We believe this victim was subjected to a prolonged ordeal – some of which may have been seen by other road users."

    He appealed for anyone who saw a silver Audi A4 driving erratically to come forward.

    The arrested man has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

    Police investigating a crash between a car and an e-scooter in Derby have released CCTV images in a bid to trace the people involved.

    Derbyshire Police said, external a Ford Focus hit the e-scooter at the junction of Boulton Lane and Harvey Road in Alvaston at about 21:30 on 23 July.

    The rider was not seriously hurt in the bump, police added, but then reportedly smashed the rear windows of the car.

    Witnesses said the rider then got into the car and was driven off.

    Police have not been able to trace the Focus or the driver, and have concerns about their welfare.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to get in contact with them.

    Two people have been injured and 10 people have been arrested after a large fight, involving weapons, in Nottinghamshire.

    The fight started inside a takeaway shop and spilled out on to Mansfield Road in Sutton-in-Ashfield at about 12:30 on Saturday, police said.

    Witnesses said they saw offenders armed with a knife and a hammer.

    One man suffered minor injuries and another man was taken to hospital with an arm injury.

    Det Sgt Ricky Ellis said: "The fight seems to have escalated following a disagreement between two parties who are known to each other.

    "Violence on this scale, and given the fact it also involved weapons, is a serious offence."

    Police are trying to trace vandals who are thought to have blown up a postbox in a Nottinghamshire village.

    Officers were called to Main Street in Rempstone just after midnight on 20 July over reports the postbox had exploded and a 4x4 vehicle was seen driving off.

    Det Sgt Charlotte Henson, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a blatant act of vandalism which has left a village without their postbox, a service which will be vital to some of the residents.

    "We would reassure residents that our officers are committed to investigating such reports of criminal damage and we understand how frightening it must have been for those who witnessed it.

    "This was a mindless act of vandalism, however, we don't believe there is any wider risk to the public."

    A number of houses in Leicestershire were evacuated overnight after a gas main was ruptured by a car crash.

    Police attended the scene on Barroon in Castle Donington just after 21:35 on Sunday.

    Officers from Loughborough, Coalville and Beaumont Leys joined with fire crews to make temporary repairs while engineers from infrastructure company Cadent worked on a permanent fix to the leak.

    The Red Cross also attended to assist people who had to move out of their homes.

    There are no reports of any injuries. No details have yet been released about the crash.
