  2. A look inside a Pfizer vaccine storage facilitypublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 14 September 2021

    East Midlands Today

The BBC has been allowed behind the scenes at a Pfizer storage facility in Leicestershire for the first time.

It's one of only two in the country and will be at the heart of the next phase of the vaccine roll-out after the government announced the Pfizer was being recommended for booster jabs.

This site can store up to 40m doses in specially-designed fridges, which keep them at -75C.

Paul Wilkinson, from Movianto - which runs the warehouse - said it had been a tough job to source the fridges "at a time when the rest of the world was trying to find storage solutions for the vaccines too".

The warehouse has so far transported 90m doses around the country and has employed an extra 120 people.

Team leader Jayson Haggett said many enjoyed the challenge of having to work quickly.

"You have to move them [vaccines] in 60 seconds," he said.

"The freezers can only be open for 60 seconds at a time because if the temperatures start dropping then you risk the product being damaged."

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Images have been released to show what a new market in Derby city centre could look like.

Plans have been submitted for a kiosk-style market at St Peter’s Churchyard, next to St Peter’s Street.

Applicants Burton Abbey Developments said if approved, the market could have up to 14 stalls, seating areas, toilet facilities and a performance area.

However, Historic England has objected to the proposals, which involve partially demolishing a Grade II-listed boundary wall.

Derbyshire Police also said in a letter that the applicant should consider the risks involved as drug addicts and street drinkers have been known to use the “nuisance” area in recent times.

In response Burton Abbey Developments said it would introduce a robust management plan, including CCTV, and work with neighbours, police and the city council to “dramatically improve the neighbourhood”.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Overall we cannot see any negative aspects to the proposal, and of course we wish to work with planners, the conservation area committee, and Derby City Council to ensure that the development is carried out sympathetically and with design values that satisfy any concerns.

"The overall design and materials used can be discussed and agreed upon via planning conditions, and sensitive aspects such as the new entrance will be given the upmost respect and consideration to its history."
