    Tune in to South Today this evening at 18:30 to hear about how Oxfordshire bore the brunt of Storm Barney overnight, as 85mph winds battered homes and brought down trees.

    Several thousand homes lost power, while a number of trees came down in Didcot and parts of Oxford causing damage to homes.

    In its report published today, external, the IPCC found Thames Valley Police did not treat missing teen Jayden Parkinson as a "high priority" before she was murdered.

    But speaking to BBC Radio Oxford her mother Samantha Shrewsbury says: "I’m angry because I feel if they had done their job and listened to what we were saying about their relationship that she would still be here now."

  8. Travel: Queuing traffic on the A34 and A40 in Oxfordpublished at 17:06

    There are still delays on the A40 Northern Bypass in both directions at the Cutteslowe roundabout because of roadworks.  

    Traffic is also slow in the A34 northbound in both directions between the Peartree interchange and Kidlington junction.

    Residents in Didcot have spoken of their shock after they escaped unhurt when a tree hit their houses in strong winds caused by Storm Barney last night.

    The 60ft-high (18m) tree crashed onto two homes in Mendip Heights shortly after 21:00 on Tuesday.

    Fire crews had to use chainsaws to cut away the branches of the tree to free those trapped inside.

    A new study into Oxford's Green Belt has been commissioned, external by a partnership of the six councils in the county, the universities and businesses.

    In an attempt to grapple with the area's housing crisis, the Oxfordshire Growth Board says: "The county has high levels of housing need that have to be addressed. Nowhere is this more acute than in Oxford.

    "The councils have, for the first time, commissioned a study to examine the Oxford Green Belt. This study is not proposing changes to any part of the Green Belt, but instead looks to examine the existing Green Belt against the five purposes of Green Belt that are set out in legislation."

    Events are being held today around Oxfordshire to raise awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

    The condition includes illnesses like emphysema and chronic bronchitis, and it's thought two million people in the country have the condition but don't realise.

    There are events today about COPD at Templars Square shopping centre in Cowley and at Marks and Spencer in Banbury.

    Organisers have announced next year’s Cowley Road Carnival will take place in Oxford on 10 July.

    A group of teenagers from Oxfordshire have travelled to Kenya to support hundreds of orphans living in poverty.

    Help for Abingdon charity the Nasio Trust, which provides a lifeline to rural communities

    Over the last 18 months, the charity’s raised £50,000 to build a new medical centre in the west of the country. 

    The teenagers have played a big part in helping to fundraise some of that money. They’ve flown over there to see for themselves how the cash is being spent, along with our reporter Adina Campbell.

  17. Police officer still running gym with man who left Oxford United player brain damagedpublished at 15:09

    Former U's player Robert Hughes, 35, was left brain-damaged after he was attacked outside a nightclub in Malia, stabbed with a broken bottle, stamped on, and left in a coma in 2008.

    PC Glen Oliver set up a gym in Crawley with Daniel Bell, who was convicted of GBH with three Surrey men at a retrial in Crete in September.  

    The Metropolitan Police has told the PC his business is not compatible with his role. PC Oliver, who is appealing, said he believed he could still run the gym.

  18. Police hunt suspects after two Oxford burglariespublished at 14:52

    Thames Valley Police are investigating a burglary in James Street, Oxford, on Monday, external between 11:00 and 22.00.

    The burglars broke into the multi-occupancy property using an insecure door and stole electrical items, a watch and cash.

    A second burglary happened in student accommodation in Abingdon Road, external, Oxford, on Tuesday between 16:30 and 17.00. A pane of glass was removed from the rear door but nothing was stolen.

    David Cameron has been taunted at PMQs over his letter to the leader of Oxfordshire County Council over the authority's budget cuts.

    The PM and Witney MP wrote to express "disappointment" at the way budget savings were being achieved, leading to Labour MP Jonathan Reynolds describing him as "the new leader of the anti-austerity movement in Oxfordshire".

    Replying to a question asking how his "anti-austerity" campaign was going, Cameron replied: "What I said to my local council is what I say to every council, which is you've got to get more for less not less for more."
