  1. Oxford flats receive food recycling binspublished at 14:25

    Oxford's private flat residents can now recycle food waste in the city, now that the council has started delivering more than 5,000 caddy bins.

    The food is used to generate electricity for 8,000 homes or turned into fertiliser.

    Residents interested in becoming part of the scheme can email the council, external to request to take part.

    There has been a series of Poppy Appeal tin thefts in Thame, external.

    Collections have been taken from:

    • The Coffee House, Buttermarket
    • Cafe Bobo, Greyhound Walk
    • St Mary's Church, Church Road
    • Masonic Hall, High Street

    None of the places had CCTV footage and Thames Valley Police is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

  9. Chipping Norton children's centre protestpublished at 12:00

    About 80 people took part in a demonstration at the weekend calling for Chipping Norton's children's centre to be saved from the county council's budget cuts axe.

    Protesters gathered outside the ACE centre on Saturday, before moving to the town's market place.

    Under the proposals, external, the authority would replace 44 existing centres with eight "children and family centres" located in the neediest areas of Oxfordshire.

  10. Oxford Brookes rowers banned for stimulant usepublished at 11:35

    UK Anti-Doping has banned two Oxford Brookes University rowers, external from all sport for two years.

    Sybren Hoogland and former Great Britain Under-23 member Timothy Grant tested positive for stimulants.

    The results came from in-competition tests at the Ghent International Regatta in Belgium on 9 May 2015.

  12. Employers asked to be 'foster friendly'published at 11:12

    As Oxfordshire battles to recruit more foster carers, employers in the county are being asked to be more lenient with their staff.

    The county council wants as many organisations as possible to sign up to a special agreement, external making it easier for people to look after vulnerable children.

    The proposal includes allowing employees to take some unpaid leave and being understanding if they are occasionally late.

  13. Hospital pipeline 'critical' for heating planspublished at 10:50

    A £14.8m upgrade to the heating and hot water systems at Oxford's John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals, including the laying of a one-mile pipe between the sites, is"critical" to meet future demand, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says.

    A spokeswoman for the trust says: "The new energy systems will offer both hospitals better resilience and less reliance on the national power grid in the high demand months of winter, reduce energy costs as well as reduce carbon emissions from both sites."
