    On South Today this evening: Some patients ringing the NHS's 111 helpline in our area have been talking to "inexperienced staff" who were "not being monitored effectively", according an internal inquiry by the service.

    The inquiry was triggered by an undercover investigation by the Daily Telegraph last summer, which claimed seriously-ill patients were being denied ambulances.

    South Central Ambulance Service says it has now improved training procedures.

  6. Watches and jewellery stolen in Oxford burglariespublished at 17:26

    Jewellery, watches and cash were stolen in a series of burglaries, external in Oxford yesterday.

    The properties targeted were:

    • Three houses in Rosamund Road between 08:30 and 18:30
    • One house in Buckler Road between 16:00 and 19:00
    • One house in Sunderland Avenue between 17:00 and 19:50.

  7. Travel latest: A34 reopened at Kidlington, but blocked at M40 junctionpublished at 17:18

    • All lanes have reopened after a collision on the A34 at Kidlington, but further up at the M40 junction the entry slip road is partially blocked following a single-vehicle collision
    • Oxford is looking very busy, especially on Botley Road going into town

    Adults who buy alcoholic drinks for under-18s are being warned they may be fined or receive a criminal conviction, external in a bid to tackle underage drinking.

    Adults caught buying a drink for youngsters face an on-the-spot fine of £90.

    The campaign is part of the Wantage & Grove Community Alcohol Partnership.

    The training of new recruits at a Bicester NHS 111 call centre was not fit for purpose, an internal review, external by Oxfordshire's ambulance service has found.

    The investigation found patients were put at risk by a reliance on "inexperienced staff" working without proper supervision.

  12. Cholsey station ticket machine damaged in 'attempt to enter machine'published at 16:07

    A ticket machine at Cholsey station was damaged overnight, in what appears to be an attempt to gain access to the interior, British Transport Police says.

    A lane is closed on the A34 northbound at Kidlington after a collision involving two cars.

    Congestion is running back to Hinksey.

    Earlier, multiple crashes closed a lane north and southbound at Abingdon, but these have now fully reopened.

  17. Campaigner's anger after Abingdon reservoir reportpublished at 15:02

    Controversial plans for a new reservoir south of Abingdon have been called "inevitable" in a report by the Institution of Civil Engineers, external.

    It says it would ensure a long-term water supply for a growing population, but the proposals - which first came to light 25 years ago - have faced a huge amount of opposition.
