  2. Town challenges Heathrow aircraft noisepublished at 14:17

    Residents in Henley-on-Thames are challenging Heathrow officials over an increase in aircraft noise.

    They complained of being woken up in the early hours and of increased aircraft noise throughout the day.

    A Heathrow representative said they will study the matter further.

  3. Oxford rowing club wants £80k to improve disabled facilitiespublished at 13:32

    A rowing club in Oxford is looking to raise more than £80,000 to help improve facilities for rowers with disabilities.  

    The City Of Oxford club hopes to reach the British Racing Standard and help to produce the Paralympians of the future.

  4. Woman arrested in Bullingdon prison drugs searchpublished at 13:16

    A 30-year-old woman has been arrested following a police drugs search at HMP Bullingdon, external prison, near Bicester.

    The operation on Wednesday saw 161 prisoners, prison staff and visitors searched.

    Five traces of cocaine and heroin were found, as well as traces of other drugs including cannabis.

    The woman from London was a visitor and has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

    A Jurassic "sea monster" found in Cambridgeshire could prove to be a new species of plesiosaur, scientists say.

    Oxford archaeologists discovered the 165 million-year-old reptile bones at Must Farm quarry near Whittlesey.

    The skeleton is currently being studied by experts at Oxford University's Museum of Natural History, where it will eventually go on display.

  10. Bacteria research 'could help develop arthritis treatments'published at 11:58

    A £2m research programme, external at the University of Oxford is looking into the link between gut bacteria and the development of immune diseases such as arthritis.

    The bacteria that live in our bodies exert influence over the body's immune system, and it is thought changes to them may cause immune and inflammatory diseases.

    The research is being funded by Arthritis Research UK, and aims to develop new treatments or preventative medicines, which could be as simple as changing the way you eat.

    Heathrow officials say they'll look again into why plane noise over Henley has seemingly got worse, although they are not aware of any changes.

    Some residents say that planes coming in to land are getting noisier - and a meeting was held last night between residents, the airport and the Henley MP John Howell.
