    The MP for Shrewsbury has called for greater investment in roads across Shropshire. 

    Conservative Daniel Kawczynski says a plan for the north west relief road for Shrewsbury should be re-introduced and he wants improvements on the A5, A49 and A483.

    Last week the country fell silent on Armistice Day to remember those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. 

    But the work of the Royal British Legion to help servicemen and women continues throughout the year. Back in 2011, the £27m Battle Back Centre was opened in Shropshire to support wounded, injured and sick service personnel. 

    By the end of this year, the centre expects to have helped 2,000 people. 

  9. College fire treated as arsonpublished at 16:57

    A fire at New College in Telford earlier today is being treated as arson, says Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. 

    Crews were called to the College at 10:46. Staff and students were sent home shortly after the fire was put out and the college was closed for the day.

    New College will open again tomorrow as normal. 

  10. It's Christmas! In Shrewsbury anyway...published at 16:40

    Christmas lights are being switched on across Shropshire. 

    Shrewsbury will the first to light up this evening, followed by Telford and Oswestry tomorrow. 

    And Father Christmas will be make an early appearance in Bridgnorth on Friday night, for the town's big switch on.

    The actor, writer and mountaineer Brian Blessed has been signing copies of his autobiography in Oswestry.

    People have been queuing out the door at the Booka bookshop to meet him.

  12. Football: Bucks' FA Trophy date changedpublished at 16:15

    Telford's game against FC United of Manchester - in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy - has been brought forward to a Friday night. 

    They were due to visit Broadhurst Park in 10 days' time, but the match has been re-arranged for Friday 27 November, by mutual agreement. 

    Kick off will be at 19:45.

  14. Power Station turbine expected to shutpublished at 15:42

    Ironbridge Power Station is expected to shut its remaining turbine today. 

    The plant is closing with the loss of 130 jobs. 

    Its owner, E-ON, decided to close it rather than bring it into line with European emissions standards.

    Thousands of homes across Shropshire are still without power after Storm Barney blew across the county last night. 

    Some of the worst affected areas include:

    • Bridgnorth - 408 homes without power
    • Minsterley - 92
    • Leebotwood - 104
    • Ironbridge - 163
