    There are still two flood warnings in place in Shropshire; for the River Vyrnwy at Melverley and Maesbrook. 

    The River Severn through the county is on Flood Alert and the flood barriers remain up next to Frankwell car park in Shrewsbury.

    One lane is blocked on the M54, external eastbound between J7 for the A5 (Wellington) and J6 for the A518 (Telford West) due to an accident. Traffic is slow in the area.

    New College in Telford has been evacuated after a fire earlier. 

    The college has been closed for the day as a precaution but will reopen as normal tomorrow.

    • Engineers have set a target of 17:00 to get most people reconnected, but some could be without power until this evening
    • Rail services between Shropshire and Birmingham are being disrupted after a tree fell on to overhead lines at Coseley
    • Some trains are being diverted. Others are terminating at Wolverhampton
    • Repairs are likely to take all day.

    Engineers are working to restore power to more than 1,000 Shropshire homes and businesses. 

    Last night's strong winds brought down dozens of trees and power-cables. 

    They've set themselves a target of five o'clock this afternoon, to try to get everyone re-connected.

    A Telford couple have been forced to return from their dream holiday at Sharm el-Sheikh after being told, "if you stay - it's at your own peril".

    John and Sandra Chamberlain, from Sutton Hill, arrived in the Egyptian resort just two days after a Russian passenger plane was brought down by a bomb - killing all on board. 

    The Chamberlains told Eric and Clare they were thrown into panic after being told they were on the final Thomas Cook flight out of Sharm.

    Western Power Distribution say more than 1,500 homes and businesses are still without power in the county after Storm Barney swept across Shropshire. 

    The county was one of the worst affected areas in the UK.

  10. Video: Flax mill takes step forwardpublished at 10:36

    The people responsible for the restoration of Shrewsbury's historic Flax Mill hope to submit a new bid for heritage lottery cash by next Summer. 

    Phase one of the project is nearly finished - with a new visitor centre opening its doors to the public next week.

    Now engineers are carrying out a series of tests on the structure to work out the best way to tackle issues with some of the building's rotting timber.

    More than 1,400 properties throughout Shropshire are without electricity, external today after winds of up to 80mph toppled trees, blocking some of the busiest roads and delaying trains in Shropshire and Mid Wales as a second storm swept across the region.

  16. Ironbridge Power Station expected to close todaypublished at 08:51

    After almost 100 years, Ironbridge Power Station is expected to finally shut off its one remaining turbine today. 

    The plant is having to close, with the loss of 130 jobs, because its emissions fall short of new European standards.

    Eon, which runs the plant, is reluctant to say exactly when the power station will fall silent, because it's commercially sensitive.
