    Body cameras for ambulance staff is "something we are seriously considering", according to the head of security for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS).

    There's been a steep rise in the number of attacks on paramedics - up from 82 to 129 in the last four years in the West Mercia area.

    A project in Clee Hill, near Ludlow, is hoping to encourage children to connect with nature.

    The Clee Young Rangers scheme sees children building their own stone age village, learning how to make fires, forage for food and go on virtual hunts.

    Run by The Shropshire Youth Forum it has received support from the Heritage Lottery Fund for two years.

  6. Ambulance staff may get body cameras after a steep rise in attackspublished at 08:50 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

    West Midlands Ambulance Service are considering introducing body cameras after a rise in the number of their ambulance staff being attacked.

    The number of attacks in the West Mercia area, which includes Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire rose from 82 to 129 between April 2012 and March 2016.

    Physical assaults went up from 21 to 56 in the same period - 19 of those attacks involved people who were drunk.

    There's slow traffic and one lane is closed on the A5 westbound in Shrewsbury after Dobbies Island, because of a broken-down lorry.

    Just over the border in Worcestershire, there's also slow traffic on the A456 in Long Bank at the Lye Head Road junction in the roadworks area.

  10. Cricket: Shropshire presence at Worcesterpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Shropshire cricket supporters have long since learned to keep eyes trained across the county border on Worcestershire these days, given the long trail of locally-reared talent that has pitched up at New Road, Worcester.

    But Worcestershire's current game against Northamptonshire, which started today, is a particular source of pride.

    The entire Worcestershire pace attack is all-Shropshire - Ed Barnard, Jack Shantry and vice-captain Joe Leach. There is still England Lions batsman Joe Clarke to come and even one of the Northants players, fast bowler Ben Sanderson, used to play for Shropshire.

    And, on top of that, one of the umpires is former Shropshire opening batsman (and Oswestry Golf Club member) Steve Gale.

  11. Appeal after M54 crashpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Police are appealing for information after a three-car crash on the M54 last week which closed the westbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6 for about two hours. 

    The collision at about 10:00 on Wednesday involved a silver Mercedes, a black Renault Twingo and a blue Mercedes. 

    The driver of the blue car, a man in his 70s, and a passenger in the vehicle, a woman in her 70s, were taken to hospital.  

    Two adults and three children in another car were treated at the scene. 

    Police are appealing for witnesses to dial 101 and ask for Central Motorway Police Group, external.

    The family of a Telford father-of-two who died in a collision on the M6 on Sunday says he "lived life to the full".

    The motorway was closed for several hours following the crash between junctions 10 and 10A on the northbound carriageway at about 15:00.  

    In a tribute released by West Midlands Police, external, Mr Marston’s family said: "Tony was a loving father to Laura and Luke and husband to Sue. 

    "He lived life to the full, he was one of life’s original characters who will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

    Midfielder Michael Monaghan has quit AFC Telford United - citing a lack of game-time for the Bucks.

    Monaghan only joined them in the summer, having impressed for Burscough in the Evo-Stik League.

    The 20-year-old's made two sub appearances this season, but was tipped by Telford manager Rob Smith for a bright future.

    A man who died in a crash on the M6 on Sunday was a married father-of-two from Telford.

    Anthony Marston, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash between junctions 10 and 10A on the northbound carriageway at about 15:00 BST, West Midlands Police, external says. 

    Mr Marston was driving a white Mercedes E300 estate and had been towing a trailer loaded with a Peugeot Partner van along the M6 northbound. The collision involved a heavy goods vehicle and a gantry was also badly damaged.
