    A couple from Wellington have got married in hospital in Shrewsbury.

    Patient David Donaldson, who's seriously ill, proposed to Lorraine Davis on Tuesday night, and a ceremony was held yesterday afternoon, with the help of staff, among them nurse Clare Harvey.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it's "very disappointed" to hear that judges in London have given the go-ahead for nearly 300 homes on the edge of Wellington. 

    The council had gone to court to get plans for Haygate Road thrown out.

    Campaigners say they're more disappointed with the officials and councillors, who'd initially approved the development, before coming out against it.

    An extraordinary general meeting has been called by the leader of Telford and Wrekin Council to discuss the prospect of legal action, over plans to reorganise hospital services in the county.

    Councillor Shaun Davies is angry after the Future Fit review body recommended downgrading Telford's A&E department and moving Women and Children's services to Shrewsbury.

    The meeting is to be held on Wednesday 7 December and will discuss the prospect of a judicial review.

  13. Shropshire homelessness levels amongst highest in West Midlandspublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    Shropshire has got one of the highest levels of homelessness in the West Midlands, according to a new report by the charity Shelter, external.

    The area, excluding Telford, is estimated to have 345 people without a home and putting it in eighth place in the region and above areas like Wolverhampton and Herefordshire when taken as a proportion of the overall population, as you can see in this map.

    The Telford and Wrekin area is much further down the list, in 16th place.

    The charity estimates there are at least a quarter of a million people homeless in England.

    Some of the town's restaurants and shops have up to 40% and there will also be free parking in long stay car parks.

    Stirchley Avenue in the Randlay area of Telford is partially blocked in both directions at the Randlay Avenue junction, because of an accident.

  17. Second hand goods seized by Telford trading standardspublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2016

    Trading Standards officers in Telford have found broken wiring repaired with duct tape, damaged plugs and an air vent clogged with dust while carrying out inspections on second-hand electrical goods on sale.

    They also seized a number of items which didn't comply with UK regulations, including a number of so-called "hoverboards".

    The explosion which damaged a post box in Ketley yesterday afternoon is being linked to a recent incident in Red Lees, where an explosion took place in a wheelie bin.

    They say that while it has been unable to confirm the exact cause of the Ketley explosion, powder residue found in the wheelie bin in the Red Lees case is consistent with a firework of some description.

    The new owners of Telford Tigers have been busy this week, after offering revised contracts to their players.

    The move was taken because the club is looking to restructure its finances and four have left after choosing not to sign, but the majority have now agreed to stay.

    Tigers head coach Tom Watkins (above) says he is now looking to bring in a new overseas player and a number of young British players to fill the gaps and he is waiting on negotiations with several other members of his squad.
