    Quote Message

My brother Cristiano was taken from me and his family too soon. He was kind at heart, funny and a loving father to his daughter. We will miss his cheeky personality which made him capable of making everyone around him feel alive - and that is how we feel in our heart and soul, that he will always be alive."

  12. Independent review of hospital plans promisedpublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2016

An independent expert is expected to be brought in to review the decision-making process behind the Future Fit review of hospital services.

The leader of the Future Fit team, David Evans, has made the commitment following concerns raised by Telford and Wrekin Council - which is unhappy with its conclusions.

    David Evans

Mr Evans says he doesn't yet know who will carry out the work, but he says it will be conducted within the current timescale, so as not to delay the process any further.

The plan is to start public consultation on the plans in the new year.

  18. Reviews of hospitals data results in alternative conclusionpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2016

The data used by the NHS to make its hospitals recommendations has been reevaluated by one of Telford and Wrekin Council's number-crunchers - and they've come to a different conclusion.

The authority says that "if used without interpretation and bias" that data should point to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital as the best place for the county's emergency department and for women and children's services.

Telford and Wrekin Council said the Future Fit review team's conclusions showed "many errors in methodology and assumptions" and skewed their assessments in favour of Shrewsbury.

It is threatening to launch a judicial review on Monday, if Telford's health commissioners decide to push ahead with consultation on the plans.

Unique footage has come to light showing some of England's best loved wild animals living in the same county.

They include a badger, stoat, weasel, polecat, pine marten, otter and American mink.

  20. Women facing long journeys to see maternity consultantspublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2016

    Elaine Muir
    Journalist, BBC Shropshire

An analysis of the time taken to transfer women in labour to a consultant-led maternity unit shows that from Oswestry's hospital, it's a 34-mile (55km) trip to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford or 13 miles (21km) to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Women using the maternity unit at Ludlow Hospital currently face a journey of either 31 miles (50km) to Telford or 26 miles (42km) to Hereford.

    Women and Children's unit

It can mean a journey of 50 minutes to get from Shrewsbury to Telford, or 87 minutes to get from Oswestry to Telford, the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says, when you factor in the time for an ambulance to arrive and the time to transfer women to and from a ward.

The NHS trust said between 20% and 25% of women giving birth at midwife-led units typically end up being transferred.

The trust also said all mums-to-be are assessed throughout their pregnancy to check their suitability for an MLU birth and they are told about the transfer-times, should they need to be moved.
