  2. New £5 note is cleaner, say Shropshire scientistspublished at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Scientists at Harper Adams University in Shropshire say the new £5 notes are much cleaner because fewer bacteria stick to them.

    Researchers have spent two years doing experiments to find out how clean our money is - including putting the cash in a special washing machine inside a laboratory. 

    The study suggests the new plastic notes are at least three times cleaner than the old ones.

  5. Protest over Ludlow maternity unit proposalspublished at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Hundreds of people marched through Ludlow at the weekend in support of its maternity services.

    Protesters fear midwife-led services at the town's Community Hospital could close or be scaled down under reorganisation plans, forcing pregnant women to travel to other sites.

    The trust running the hospital said it would continue to provide "midwifery-led care in all care settings".

    An investigation's under way after a big fire in Bridgnorth, external overnight. 

    Innage Lea had been empty since last year and was recently saved from demolition.
