  1. Dog behaviourist admits his dogs killed dozens of lambspublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A dog behaviourist from Shropshire has admitted that his two pets killed dozens of lambs on a Herefordshire farm.

    Charles Ross-Robertson pleaded guilty to owning two Rottweiler-cross dogs which killed the sheep, valued at £21,000, in Risbury last September.

    At the time, farmer Thomas Hadley (pictured) said his field was "scattered" with dead sheep.

    Ross-Robertson is due to be sentenced in May.

    The dogs called Brindle and Bourneville have been kept in kennels since the attack, at a cost to the public of £7,500.

    An application has been made for them to be destroyed.

  3. Extra-large lorry delivers casting machine to Telford factorypublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A machine so large it needed a 96-wheel, 16-axle lorry to carry it has been delivered to the Magna Cosma factory in Telford this morning.

    It has driven to Shropshire from Austria, through Germany and Holland and came over on a ferry to Hull.

    The company says when the aluminium die casting machine is fully assembled it will be the largest of its type in the UK and will form part of their new casting facility in Telford, which is creating nearly 300 jobs.

    Shropshire's one-day Trophy campaign got off to a poor start as they suffered an eight-wicket defeat by neighbours Staffordshire at Shrewsbury. 

    Asked to bat first, Shropshire's Oli Westbury (62) and Steve Leach (30) put on 55 for the first wicket.

    At 105 for 1 Shropshire were in a strong position but lost their last 7 wickets for 55 to be all out for 160.

  5. Food allergy inspections to be carried outpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Inspections will be carried out at food businesses in Shropshire this week to make sure they're not putting people with food allergies at risk.

    Shropshire Council says its health protection team will also be educating the businesses on how to warn customers about  the presence of allergens in their food.

    The checks are being carried out to coincide with Allergy Awareness Week and the council says in the last year its inspectors found a quarter of businesses weren't complying with regulations designed to protect people with food allergies.

  6. Trust takes over community centrepublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A trust, made up of residents, will take over the running of Sutton Hill Community Centre today. 

    They've taken it off the hands of Telford and Wrekin Council which said it couldn't afford to fund it. 

    The trust has appointed Mike Crawshaw as its centre manager.

    Junior Brown headed the winner as Shrewsbury moved to the brink of League One safety with a victory over Southend.

    Paul Hurst's side lifted themselves six points clear of fourth-bottom Port Vale, who have two games left but a goal difference 11 inferior to Shrewsbury.

    Shrewsbury, up to 18th in the table, grabbed the winner in the 64th minute when left back Brown headed in a corner from Shaun Whalley to spark jubilant scenes at the final whistle at the Greenhous Meadow.

    It has emerged the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust was told to improve its monitoring of foetal heart rates a decade ago.

    The NHS regulator told the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust that it wasn't learning from serious incidents. 

    It is now under investigation after at least seven avoidable deaths were recorded in two years - five of which had a failure to monitor or analyse heart rates as a contributory factor.

    In 2007, the Health Care Commission became involved at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after a number of families started legal action following problems at the maternity unit. 

    The trust says it carries out investigations into every case and is co-operating fully with the new inquiry.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals are getting an extra £1m, to ease the pressure in accident and emergency. 

    The Department of Health money, for next winter, is to help hospitals treat 95% of patients within four hours.
