  1. Hospital waiting times 'getting better'

    The chief executive of Oswestry's orthopaedic hospital says significant progress has been made in tackling long waiting times for surgery. 

    Some patients had been waiting more than a year.

    Mark Brandreth says last month they were just 0.5% short of meeting national targets for treating patients within 18 weeks.   

    Opening our new theatre block has really made a difference in terms of the amount of operations we can do. We're also growing, we've recruited eight new consultants in the last year."

  2. Football: Shrewsbury go three points clear of drop zone

    Mat Sadler's second-half equaliser earned Shrewsbury a valuable point at nine-man Northampton Town.

    Yesterday's game ended 1-1.

    Marc Richards' header gave Northampton a 21st-minute lead, but Sadler headed home Shrewsbury's equaliser midway through the second period, while home pair David Buchanan and John-Joe O'Toole were both sent off.  

    They were the only side in the bottom eight not to be beaten.
