    Telford and Wrekin Council says the police have given no indication when it might reopen.

    The parents of a 21-year-old volunteer from Shrewsbury who died after being swept out to sea say they're taking legal action against the charity which organised the placements.

    Summer Robertson (below, left) and 19-year-old Alice Barnett died when they were overpowered by fierce currents off a beach in South Africa in 2014.

    Summer's parents Sarah and John Robertson say the company that ran the volunteering programme, Latitude, knew of the dangers of swimming in unsupervised areas, but didn't communicate this to the girls.

    The company said all the proper checks and safety procedures were carried out.

    The changes to the layout at junction four of the M54 are continuing to cause debate on the BBC Radio Shropshire Facebook page, external, after Telford and Wrekin Council tweaked the lane-markings recently.

    Matthew Holt likes the changes, writing: "The lanes are marked so you know which one to be in. And you don't need to cut people up to get to your exit."

    Robert Bason thought the changes have been a mistake though. He wrote: "They were fine as they were originally before they started messing about and digging them up."

    And several people said they thought the issue was with drivers, not the road-markings.

    Alan Jenkins suggested: "We just need a bit of patience and we can minimise accidents. Just imagine yourselves driving in a strange town."

  5. Twenty-six suspicious fires investigatedpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    A 26-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy from Telford have been arrested by detectives investigating a series of arsons which started in 2012.

    West Mercia Police says it is linking 26 suspicious fires in the Hadley and Leegomery area, which took place over a five year period.

    The force said a "great amount of time, effort and investigative work" had been put in and it realised the time it had taken to make these arrests may have caused "concern and even frustration amongst the community".

    More than 2,000 people have joined a group in Shropshire which paints small stones and leaves them in public places for others to find.

    The Shropshire Rocks group has its own Facebook page, external and encourages people to post photos of the stones they find.

    The woman who got it started, Rachel Hales, from Telford, says the aim is to spread a bit of happiness.

    She says it's based on a similar scheme in the United States.

    The Telford Tigers ice hockey club is looking for more volunteers ahead of the new season.

    It will be putting out two teams in the National Ice Hockey League North with match days at the Telford Ice Rink on Saturdays and Sundays.

    A number of players from the team which won the English Premier League last season have returned, but the club says it needs more help off the ice.

    It is holding a recruitment event at the ice rink bar at 18:30 tonight.

  11. Fatal crash driver may have been involved in argumentpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    A taxi driver in his 50s who died when his car crashed into a tree in Telford last night may have been involved in an argument with the occupants of another vehicle, the police say.

    The fatal crash happened on Madeley Road and detectives are investigating reports of a disagreement outside Tesco in Madeley and another on the B4373 Ironbridge Road.

    The area outside the Tesco and the road leading to Abraham Darby School have been taped off while enquiries are carried out.

    A passenger in his car, who is in his 20s, is being treated at a hospital in Birmingham. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    Shrewsbury Town midfielder Alex Rodman says he's hoping for a good run in the League Cup and maybe a shot at playing a big team at some point.

    They play the once-mighty Nottingham Forest tonight and Rodman said progressing in the competition could be a "nice financial boost for the club".

    He said he remembered the excitement of beating West Ham, Carlisle and Rochdale while he was playing for Aldershot, before going out to Manchester United.

    The Friends of Apley Woods say they've seen a big reduction in the amount of dog poo lying about, since they started spraying it with blue paint.

    The aim was to highlight the problem and to shame dog-owners into picking it up and volunteer Julie Burroughs said the amount of dog mess found in the woods had more than halved.

    Telford and Wrekin Council is running a similar campaign this month and will be marking dog muck with a yellow spray.

  16. Show organiser looks to reduce risks after young farmer's deathpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    A "mature assessment" of the risks surrounding the Royal Welsh Show has been promised by the event's chief executive.

    It follows the death of 19-year-old James Corfield, who was found in the River Wye after attending the show in July.

    Steve Hughson said "when you bring this number of people together in one place there will inevitably be risks" and that "we clearly can't eliminate all risks", but said a committee would look at ways to reduce them.

    Mr Hughson said that two of the clearest risks for people attending the show were the river and the local road network.

    He added that the death of James Corfield has had a "profound effect" on the community.

    A driving instructor who started a social media campaign to get changes made to junction four of the M54, says he is pleased with the new layout.

    Brian Fleming from Shifnal was unhappy when workmen changed the road markings three months ago, saying they were confusing and had led to cars being cut up on the roundabout.

    Last month, Telford and Wrekin Council responded to the complaints by repainting the lanes and Mr Fleming said it was now a lot clearer.

    But he said there needed to be better signage for cars approaching to the junction, so that drivers know which lane to get in.

    The new AFC Telford United manager, Rob Edwards, will take charge of his first league game at the Bucks Head tonight.

    His side are facing Brackley Town tonight, a side which had a surprise pre-season win over Shrewsbury Town recently.

    Edwards said their opposition was "very capable" and that while it would be nice for the fans for Telford to "put on a show", it wouldn't be easy.

    A director of a Shropshire property company has suggested planners should be "more open minded" about properties in Shrewsbury town centre and perhaps allow some to be combined, to create larger floor spaces.

    And this has been generating a lot of comment on the BBC Radio Shropshire Facebook page, external, with many people like Susan Tinsley saying developers should "leave it as it is".

    Julia Finch said the small stores are "what makes Shrewsbury so special to visitors, a town of individual shops, not big chains that you can see anywhere".

    But David Jones believes more use should be made of some old buildings, writing: "It would be financially beneficial to use our empty historic buildings and to show the town off to the rest of the country."
