    An appeal has been launched, external to raise £15,000 to convert the home of a Telford man who was paralysed in a bicycle accident.

    Alan Jenkins and his family sold the home they'd lived in for the last 21 years, and bought a bungalow, after he came off his bike in a cycle race last September.

    Alan is being looked after at a cente in Wellington until his new house in St Georges is ready and will require full-time specialist care at home.

  2. 'Pent up demand' for retail space in Shrewsburypublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    There is a "pent up demand" for space in Shrewsbury from national restaurant chains, according to local property company Halls Commercial.

    But director James Evans says they are struggling to find premises which are large enough and are having to look at adapting buildings in the town.

    Mr Evans also warned that companies were worried that higher car parking charges might put off visitors.

    Shropshire Council is considering making changes to its car parking pricing, with some car parks in the town centre set to become more expensive.

    Shrewsbury Town supporters hoping to raise enough money to build a safe-seating section at their stadium have collected £8,586 in the first week.

    They have set themselves a target of collecting £75,000 by 12 September and hope to install about 500 of the rail seats.

    If they succeed, they will be the first club in England to have a safe standing area.

    Unlicensed scrap dealers from the West Midlands are starting to appear in the county, Telford and Wrekin Council is warning.

    It says it is investigating the reports and will fine companies that aren't operating within the rules.

    Shropshire Revolution completed a perfect 10-0 season with a massive 82-0 win over Humber Warhawks.

    They were already guaranteed their place in the end-of-season play-offs, but this was their biggest win for several seasons and one of the biggest in British American Football this season.

    An 18-year-old from Shrewsbury is going to get the prosthetic leg she wanted after a fundraising campaign to help her met its target in just four days.

    Timmy Peart would like to go swimming when she goes on holiday next year and needs one which she can wear in the pool.

    Her surgeon, Mark Cheetham, set up a page on the internet to gather the money, which will also be spent on a dry suit for her.

  9. Roadworks start on Dawley to Telford routepublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    Eighteen days of work to reconstruct the main road from Dawley into Telford town centre begins this morning.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says there is cracking on the surface and tests have revealed issues with the supporting structure of Castlefields Way.

    The work will be done in stages and a diversion will be in place through Brookside and Stirchley.

    Substitute Lenell John-Lewis scored a 92nd-minute winner as Shrewsbury Town began their League One campaign with a home victory over Northampton at the weekend.

    Experienced striker John-Lewis, one of Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst's 11 summer signings, converted Alex Rodman's low cross from the left to wrap up three points with time running out.

    Arrests of children by West Mercia Police have fallen by 77% in the last six years.

    Research by the Prison Reform charity the Howard League found the force made just over 1,200 arrests of children aged 17 and under last year.

    Across England and Wales, the number of children in prison has also dropped by 58% since 2010.

    The Howard League says research suggests the more contact a child has with the system, the more entrenched they're likely to become - which increases reoffending rates.

  15. Man critical after Telford assaultpublished at 08:44 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    A 26-year-old man has been arrested after an assault in Telford left a victim with life-threatening injuries.

    Police said a 35-year-old man was assaulted in Blakemore just after 21:00 on Saturday evening.

    He was taken to hospital in Birmingham with a serious head injury where he remains in a critical condition.
