  12. Your comments: Knife angel snub debatedpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    Andy Giddings
    BBC Shropshire

The news that there is probably no place for the Oswestry knife angel in Trafalgar Square has been provoking a lot of comment on BBC Radio Shropshire's Facebook page.

Craig Reeves is still keen to see it on display in London, writing: "Another location in London should be pursued."

    Knife Angel

Nanny Price and Caroline Harrison were among those who said they'd prefer to keep it here anyway, with Caroline writing: "Let's keep it in Shropshire then where it's more appreciated!"

And Andus Mcabu said he could see it from the point of view of the London authorities, who say they have a policy of only accepting work they commission, he wrote: "Fair enough. If they have a policy for what they'll show, it's unreasonable to expect them to make an exception just for this."

  13. Call to adapt more old town centre buildings in Shrewsburypublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

Shropshire planners need to be "more open minded" about the buildings in Shrewsbury's town centre, the director of a local property company has said.

James Evans from Halls Commercial said that while the authorities "need to retain the inherent character of Shrewsbury" national chain stores were looking for bigger premises.

He went on to say that the people responsible for listed buildings are "going to have to realise" that it may be necessary to combine some buildings to make larger shops and restaurants possible.

  14. High insurance excesses mean police pay for new carspublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

High insurance excesses meant the police in West Mercia and Warwickshire had to pay the bill for the 14 cars written off last year.

The forces have decided to increase that excess for each vehicle to £100,000 for this year, but point out the policies cover not just damage to the vehicles, but to the equipment they contain.

  18. Police forces write off cars worth more than £130kpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

Last year, cars worth more than £130,000 had to be written off by the West Mercia and Warwickshire police forces, because of damage they'd sustained.

In the West Mercia area, 11 vehicles were damaged beyond repair in 2016-17, the most expensive being an Audi A4. Warwickshire lost three vehicles, with a BMW being the most valuable.

The two forces said some vehicles which they'd treated as write-offs might have been repairable, but that it was easier for them to get new vehicles than repair the damaged ones.

  19. Mayor of London's office dismisses knife angel bidpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

The knife angel sculpture, built at the British Ironworks Centre near Oswestry, doesn't meet the criteria for the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, the Mayor of London's office has said.

Nearly 10,000 people have signed online petition has called for the statue, made of knives and other bladed weapons surrendered to the police, to be erected there.

But the mayor's office said its policy is only to display work commissioned in advance and it won't allow pre-existing work to appear on the plinth.

It also said it had chosen all the artwork due to be displayed there between now and 2022.
