    We've been talking about this protest going on at the site of a new biomass plant in South Yorkshire.

    Its been organised by trade unions who say the plant at Templeborough is being built using cheap foreign labour.

    The GMB say Interserve and Babcock, Wilcox and Volund aren't paying the agreed industry rate for all workers on the site.

    Interserve says it's disappointed with this second protest at the plant and it complies with UK legislation on pay and generally uses UK contractors and UK supply chain partners. 

    The company plan to continue to work with the unions to find a solution.

    We've got a Big Knit , externaltaking place at BBC Radio Sheffield later this month. 

    We're going to get 100 people into our Open Centre on 19 April, and they're going to knit all day long to make woolly caps for 100 babies.

    Here's the best bit: if you want to, you can be part of it. They do say it's the new rock 'n' roll!

  3. Doncaster farmers dig ditches to stop quad bike riderspublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    More on the news that farmers in Doncaster say they're being forced to dig ditches around their fields to stop quad bikers riding over their land and damaging crops.

    Waist-deep ditches have been dug around several farms near villages including Barnburgh, Hooton Pagnell and Brodsworth.

    One farmer has told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's terrible to go to all the trouble of growing a crop to then see people riding around and destroying it right in front of your eyes. It's upsetting."

    South Yorkshire Police said it was working to support the farmers.

  4. Sheffield's Women of Steel see statue take shapepublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Some of Shefield's "Women of Steel" will watch the start of work on a statue in their name being created today. 

    The statue honours the efforts of women who worked in steelworks during World War Two.

    The women will witness the metal being poured at a foundry in Gloucestershire. 

    The statue will be unveiled in June in the centre of Sheffield.

    The coroner at the Hillsborough inquests in Warrington has discharged a female member of the jury. 

    The coroner Sir John Goldring, explaining his decision to the remaining jury members in court, said: "The information I have included a medical basis for her to be discharged". 

    The nine members of the jury have now retired to continue their deliberations. 

    They were first sent out yesterday afternoon after the coroner concluded his summing-up.

    There's a protest going on at the site of a new biomass plant in South Yorkshire. It's been organised by trade unions who say the plant at Templeborough is being built using "cheap foreign labour".

    The GMB union says Interserve and Babcock, Wilcox and Volund in Templeborough aren't paying the agreed industry rate for all workers on the site.

    Barnsley FC's Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory celebrations are due to take place in the town this evening after The Reds beat Oxford United 3-2 at Wembley at the weekend.

    The team is due to appear on Barnsley Town Hall balcony, external between 18:00 and 18:30.

    Due to the celebrations, Church Street, Saddler Gate and St Mary's Gate will be closed from 16:30 and on-road parking on Church Street will also be suspended from that time.

    Restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible after the event.

    A big steelworkers union is hopeful that Tata plants in South Yorkshire will be attractive to potential buyers.

    Tata Steel's UK operations will go on sale by Monday at the latest, with Business Secretary Sajid Javid is pledging to do all he can to help find a buyer.

    The steel frames for the new temporary market have arrived in Barnsley.

    It's part of the major scheme to transform the markets area.

    There'll be a temporary market on the site (pictured below) while work is done to gut and redevelop the markets building.

  16. Cash coming to South Yorkshire to repair potholespublished at 09:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Almost £700,000 pounds is to be spent in South Yorkshire to repair potholes. 

    The government's announced £50m to repair nearly one million potholes nationally from the £250 million Pothole Action Fund included in last month's Budget.

    Doncaster will get £250,000, Rotherham will get about £230,000 and Barnsley will get almost £220,000

    But Gerald Vernon-Jackson, vice chair of the Local Government Association, says it's small change:
