Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Jason Harwin says:

Post Offices are key locations where members of the local community, particularly the elderly, regularly handle money. This makes them an ideal place in which we can interact with the public. After the success of Adopt-a-Post Office in Rotherham it made sense for us to 'adopt' Post Offices force-wide, in some of our key communities. Brilliant idea, will save on the litter and deter people from peeing into the paper/plastic cups and chucking them over the crowd!!! All festivals should give out a re-usable cup and it would be a great keepsake from the event.

Hopefully some people will use it again and again or they could get it squashed and framed. It will be quite retro.

Sheffield City Council wrote to the owner of the property in February 2015 informing him that because of the building's historic status, consent was required for repainting the shop front. The owner was also told the union flag theme was unacceptable on a listed building.

The owner contacted the local planning authority and explained that, while he had no intention of repainting the shop front in a more acceptable colour, he'd submit an application for Listed Building Consent, even though it's unlikely he'll be successful.

What do you think? Is the paint job garish? Let us know.
