    Tributes have been left at the scene in Harehills, Leeds, where a 19-year-old man, named locally as Raheem Wilks, was the victim of a fatal shooting yesterday.

    One of the cards on the flowers that have been left reads: "Daddy you were sadly taken".  

    A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    The fatal shooting of a man outside a barber's shop in Harehills, Leeds, yesterday was a "targeted" attack, police say.

    The victim, named locally as 19-year-old Raheem Wilks, was shot yesterday lunchtime and was taken to hospital where he later died. 

    A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

    A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today, police say.

    Nearly £1m has been spent to improve flood defences at York's Castle Mills pumping station.

    The investment has been revealed by Yorkshire Water following the publication of an independent report into the floods which badly affected the city in 2015. 

    New pumps and electrical panels have been installed, and flood doors to provide further protection are also planned.

    This is the scene in Chapeltown, Leeds, this morning following a shooting there yesterday.

    Police and ambulance crews were called to Gathorne Terrace at about 13:20 on Thursday where they found a man had been shot and seriously injured.

    The government has announced it's closing a job centre in Goldthorpe, near Rotherham, one of the areas of highest unemployment in South Yorkshire.

    It's one of 78 centres being shut and comes after a previous a commitment no job centre would close without consultation if it takes 20 or more minutes to get to the next one on public transport. 

    The closest one to Goldthorpe is in Mexborough, 25 minutes away by bus. 

    The area's MP John Healey says he'll challenge the plans.

    • Emergency services were called to Gathorne Terrace, Chapeltown, at about 13:20 on Thursday
    • It was reported that a man had been shot at a barber's shop
    • A man was found seriously injured at the scene and was taken to hospital for emergency treatment

    The creation of a masterplan for the southern end of the city has now been approved by councillors.

    This area includes Piccadilly, the Castle Museum area, which takes in parts of the River Foss, and Coppergate.

    Unions at the steel giant Tata are urging workers at all its UK plants, including the ones in South Yorkshire, to accept a deal which includes pension reform.

    The Unite, GMB and Community unions have said that while the offer isn't perfect, it represents the "only credible and viable way to secure the future". 

    A ballot on the offer is expected to go ahead on Monday.

    A judicial review looking into City of York Council's decision to approve plans for a visitor centre at the foot of York's Clifford's Tower has been granted.

    The council approved English Heritage's £2m plan in October, but objectors claim the centre, part of a wider scheme to improve access to the ruin, would damage views of the tower.

    Independent York councillor Johnny Hayes, who set up a fund to push for a judicial review, believes the decision to give the go-ahead to the plans was "deeply flawed"..

    Richard Beeton was last seen in High Storrs at about 17:10 on Thursday.

    He's described as white, of slim build, about 5ft 10ins tall and wearing tortoiseshell-rimmed glasses, dark clothing and a thin black jacket.

    I'm out in Chapeltown, Leeds, this morning following news of a shooting here yesterday afternoon.

    Details are still sketchy, but what we have from West Yorkshire Police is that they received a report at about 13:20 that a man had been shot at the barber's shop on Gathorne Terrace - just off Roundhay Road.

    Ambulance and police attended the scene and they found a man who was seriously injured.

    He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment and we're yet to get an update on his condition.

    A police cordon was set up at the scene so anyone around here at the time will have seen the blue police tape.

    Enquiries are ongoing and we'll bring you all the latest from Chapeltown as we get it.
