    Protests are being held in several cities including Sheffield, Leeds and York this evening over US President Donald Trump banning travel into the US from seven majority muslim countries.

    The American President has again insisted the restrictions have been implemented with "few problems" and are necessary to tackle terrorism. 

    A petition set up by a man in Leeds, external, to stop Mr Trump's UK state visit has gathered more than 1,200,000 signatures. By 14:30 this afternoon 73,144 across Yorkshire had signed the petition, external.

  3. New exhibition of drawings found in NUM basement in Barnsleypublished at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2017

    A set of drawings made during the miners’ strike of 1984-5 is going on show in Wakefield next month.

    The ink drawings were discovered by accident in a basement at the NUM office in Barnsley. 

    They are the work of the late Peter Price, an artist from Maltby, one of South Yorkshire's former mining communities.

    They were among a huge collection of items removed from the NUM’s national headquarters in Sheffield, which was shut down after the Conservative government's pit closure programme in 1994.

    The art will be on display at Unity Works in Wakefield from 6 February until the annual festival celebrating the art, culture and history of the strike With Banners Held High, external on 4 March.

  4. Free travel for Bantams' fans after postponed matchpublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2017

    Last week Bradford City fans completed a 350 mile round journey to Oxford United, only to be turned away minutes before the match because the pitch was too icy to play on.

    But a statement on the club's website, external says that the sponsors of the Checkatrade Trophy have offered supporters free travel for the re-arranged match tomorrow.  

    To qualify you have to have a ticket from the postponed match and the places are limited.

    A 25-year-old man from Surrey has been charged with sexual offences following an investigation into a rape in Sheffield. 

    Leo Del Pellegrino, of School Lane, Addlestone, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Saturday 28 January, charged with three counts of rape and seven counts of possession of indecent images of children. 

    He was arrested by police in November and remains in police custody, until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on 27 February.

    The driver of a car that crashed in Batley, is being sought by police after a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured.

    The car they were travelling in, a blue Volkswagen Bora, hit a tree on Saturday night. 

    The driver and other passengers ran away from the stricken car, leaving the injured boy behind.

    He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

    A new group has been set up, saying it's trying to "protect York" from fracking.

    Amber is nine, she was born a boy, but since last summer she's been living and identifying as a girl.

    She lives near Sheffield and went for her first appointment at Leeds Gender Identity Clinic last autumn.

    They say they've seen a huge rise in the number of children referred to their service since 2009.

    Now she and her family, whose story is on the BBC's Inside Out tonight, are calling for better support for other young people who have gender dysphoria after they struggled to get help through the NHS:

  11. Mountain rescue to help man who fell at Bronte Fallspublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2017

    This was the scene up at Bronte Falls near Keighley yesterday after a man fell.

    The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team were called and found that the man has possibly dislocated his ankle.

    The man was treated at the scene and then taken to Airedale Hospital for further treatment.

    He's been raising money for a rehabilitation centre for military personnel.

    Tents near Park Hill flats in Sheffield where homeless people had been living are being cleared by the city council.

    Around 10 tents were originally set up in the area in October but they were removed by organisers after local authorities stepped in to help homeless people. 

    Tents reappeared just before Christmas but the council then told organisers to clear the site or face a £2,000 fine.

    This afternoon council officials are again clearing the site.

    West Yorkshire Police have just confirmed that a 49-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, arrested in connection with a shooting in Leeds, have been released on bail.

    A 21-year-old man is still being questioned by officers after a teenager was shot dead outside a barber's shop in Harehills in Leeds.   

    Raheem Wilks, 19, was shot on Thursday and died later in hospital.

    The inquest into the death of Katie Rough has today been adjourned in York until the court case has been heard.

    The seven-year-old was found seriously injured in the Woodthorpe area of the city earlier this month. 

    A 15-year-old girl has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 16 February.

    Four men who who punched a man in the face outside a Sheffield pub are being sought by police.

    The 18-year-old victim was approached by the men outside Yate's bar in Barker's Pool on Saturday night.

    All four of the men took part in the attack.

    These are cigarettes and roiling tobacco that have been seized in Harehills, Leeds.

    West Yorkshire Police says that they used "tobacco detection dogs" and uncovered a purpose-built secret room underneath a staircase with a hydraulic system. 

    Officers seized more than 30,000 cigarettes and 20kg of rolling tobacco, worth more than £8,000.

    Three people are still in police custody after a teenager was shot dead outside a barber's shop in Leeds.

    The two men and a woman are being held on suspicion of murder following the death of 19-year-old Raheem Wilks. 

    He was shot in Harehills on Thursday and died later in hospital.
