    For many actors, appearing in the West End is dream job and that's what's happened to York teenager, Josh Benson.

    Josh, who is also a magician and entertainer, has landed a key part in the musical version of Calendar Girls.

    He plays Tommo in "The Girls". Music for the show has been written by Take That's Gary Barlow.

    A man from Leeds has been arrested over a shooting in a hotel in Stockport on Tuesday.

    A 46-year-old woman was seriously injured, suffering abdominal wounds in the attack at the Britannia Hotel on Dialstone Lane in Offerton.

    West Yorkshire Police say they have arrested a 47-year-old man. 

    He is in police custody and detectives are liaising with Greater Manchester Police.

    Teenager Faye Simpson, 15, who was missing from her home in York since Saturday has been found safe and well.

    North Yorkshire Police confirmed last night that Faye had been found and was back at home.

    Two gunshots were fired through the ground floor window of a house in Sheffield in the early hours of Wednesday, police have revealed.

    Officers were called to the property in Southey Hall Road at around 03:00 yesterday.

  6. Campaign to tackle 'peel and steal' van theftspublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

    A campaign group has been set up to tackle so-called "peel and steal" crimes where thieves take the back off a van like a tin of sardines.

    Last month vans with thousands of pounds of valuable tools inside were targeted across West Yorkshire.

    Campaigners estimate that items are stolen from five vans every day in the UK using this method.

    Syrian refugees are volunteering their cookery skills to feed people in West Yorkshire. 

    The Syrian Kitchen in Leeds is part of the junk food project which uses food meant for the bin, to cook healthy meals which people pay whatever they can afford.

    Police have sealed off a stretch of Temple Road in Dewsbury.

    That stretch is home to St Paulinus Primary School, which is believed to have told parents it will not open until lunchtime.

    The financial pressures of being self-employed are taking their toll on families, according to a new report.

    Think-tank Centre for the Modern Family says despite increased flexibility, almost a fifth of self-employed people are increasingly worried about money. 

    The think tank is calling for the government to do more to support self-employed people.

    Leeds United returned to winning ways last night with Pontus Jansson's 89th-minute header giving them a hard fought 2-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. 

    Stuart Dallas had put United in front only for Rovers' Elliott Bennett to level with seven minutes remaining. 

    United are now just a point behind third-placed Reading in the Championship table.

    Head coach Garry Monk said it was not a good performance from his side who he praised for having the resilience to score two important goals:

    The trust that runs Wentworth Castle Gardens near Barnsley is reassuring people who've already arranged celebrations at the Grade I-listed site, that their bookings are safe.

    It was announced yesterday that the tourist attraction will close in the spring due to lack of funds.

    There's an uncertain future for one of South Yorkshire's big tourist attractions.

    Wentworth Castle Gardens at Stainworth, near Barnsley is shutting to visitors

    The trust running it says it can't afford to keep the gates of the Grade I-listed attraction open. 

    The stately home on the site will also shut despite only reopening in 2014 after a £3.74m renovation.

    A man from West Yorkshire wants councils to rethink burial costs after he was told he'd have to pay more for his dad's remains to be buried in Lancashire. 

    Hugh Payne had Alzheimer's disease and died at a nursing home in Mirfield. 

    He originally lived near Blackpool but because he'd moved away for just over a year, officials were going to charge his family an extra £500 for his ashes to buried near his home. 

    Fylde Borough Council has now changed its mind but Hugh's son, Alan, said he doesn't want it to happen to anyone else:

    Driving in to Leeds City Centre during the morning rush hour is a pain at the best of times but it gets much harder from this morning.

    Work begins to curb strong winds around Yorkshire's tallest building - Bridgewater Place.

    Roughly 100 yards of Water Lane, which is at the foot of the skyscraper, will be closed fully until 9 May 2017.

    It's so that engineers can start constructing baffles which will deflect strong gusts away from the street level.

    The closure of the last dementia respite care home in Sheffield is going ahead after the city council voted for the closure of Hurlfield View on Gleadless Common

    The home is the last specialist day care centre for people with dementia in the city. 

    From the end of March people will have respite care in a number of care homes across Sheffield. 

    The authority says they'll also be able to book day centre places at homes and centres already providing care to people with dementia and complex needs.

    Tadcaster Bridge is now expected to reopen tomorrow. It was originally scheduled to reopen on 27 January but bad weather has prevented workmen finishing the job on time.

    North Yorkshire County Council says the exact time won't be known until short notice, as works will continue until shortly before the opening. 

    The bridge has been shut for more than a year now after partly collapsing in the floods of December 2015.

    The family of Sir Ken Morrison (pictured below) say people will get the chance to pay tribute to the man who turned the eponymous Bradford-based supermarket chain into a household name.

    His funeral will be for close family only but in a statement his family say there'll be a public celebration of his life at a later date.
