    Two men have been sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after earlier pleading guilty to defrauding elderly and vulnerable victims, external in North, South and West Yorkshire, for roofing work and laundering the proceeds.

    The men, Steven Henry Loveridge, 41, and Michael Thomas Francis, 51, both of Thistle Hill Travellers’ Site, Knaresborough, were arrested in November 2015 after an 84-year-old woman reported she'd been forced to hand over cash to the men in Thirsk Market Place.

    There's nothing in a new report to affect the planned demolition of the Futurist Theatre in Scarborough , according to senior councillors in the town.

    Borough councillors have already agreed to spend up to £4m on knocking down the landmark venue. 

    They had been waiting for a final engineers' report after an investigation at the site last November looking at subsurface and groundwater conditions.

    That's now been published and the conclusions are broadly in line with previous surveys.

  3. Lorry hits bridge on Sheffield-Chesterfield rail linepublished at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Here's the very latest on the situation on the trains between Sheffield and Chesterfield.

    A lorry has collided with a bridge (pictured) on the Sheffield-Chesterfield rail line.

    The collision happened on Whittington Hill at about 09:50.

    The lorry has been removed, although the trailer it was carrying is still stuck.

    No one was injured in the collision.

    Rail services between the two stations are likely to be affected until at least 11:15, according to National Rail Enquiries.

    National Rail Enquiries say  a vehicle's collided with a bridge between Chesterfield and Sheffield , external .

    Train services through these stations may be diverted or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

    This is expected to continue until 11:15.

    Visitors from the French town of Bapaume are being given a tour of Sheffield this week.

    Sheffield "adopted" and helped rebuild the town, which is close to The Somme, in 1920 after it was heavily damaged during World War One.

    The new homes and nursery which were built with money raised in Sheffield still stand in the town.

    Sheffield is known in Bapaume as its "Godmother".

  7. Traffic and travel update: Yorkshire's road hotspotspublished at 10:23 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Here's some news on a few traffic hotspots around Yorkshire at the moment:

    • The A65 Leeds Road is partially blocked in both directions due to an accident in Ilkley, invoving a car and a cyclist near the B6382 Wheatley Lane
    • In Denholme, West Yorkshire, there's slow traffic on the A629 Smithy Hill in both directions at the A644 Brighouse Road
    • And the M1 southbound is slow moving due to a an earlier broken down vehicle between J31 and J30

  8. Landslip on line affects Yorkshire rail servicespublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    As we've been telling you, rail services in parts of West Yorkshire have been suspended following a landslip, and disruption is expected to continue for most of the day .

    Northern Rail says the line was closed between Sowerby Bridge and Bradford Interchange to carry out repairs after the landslip on Monday.

    The disruption will affect services travelling between Blackpool North-Manchester Victoria and Leeds-York only.

    The former Conservative leader and North Yorkshire MP Lord Hague has urged the Prime Minister to seek an early general election.

    Writing in the Daily Telegraph, external , Lord Hague says Theresa May needs a decisive Commons majority to head off backbench rebellions and an early election would put her in a stronger position in Brexit negotiations.

    Bringing forward an election "would strengthen the government's hand at home and abroad", he adds.

  10. Missing Middlesbrough teenager 'may be heading to Bradford'published at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    A 15-year-old girl who's gone missing from her home in Middlesbrough may be on her way to West Yorkshire, police believe.

    Saba Hussain, who is described as vulnerable, is about 5ft 6ins tall, with thick brown hair, thick glasses and a lip piercing.

    She's believed to be wearing a black polo top, white skinny jeans and dark trainers.

    It's believed that Saba may now be heading to Bradford by bus or train, and anyone with information about her whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    A Sheffield Hallam university graduate is urging others to go for an apprenticeship.

    Holly Broadhurst now works for JCB after being named Higher or Degree Apprentice of the Year last year.

    Now, as part of National Apprenticeship Week, Holly says others should "go for it 100%".

    A Big Issue seller in York says he thinks he might be the first in the region to accept contactless payments from customers.

    Sinbad, whose regular pitch is on the city's Coppergate Walk, has been selling the magazine for the past 15 years.

  14. Listen: 'It'll never be normal again' - Couple's heartbreak over stillborn baby published at 09:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    A couple from West Yorkshire say they're heartbroken after hospital failings meant their baby was stillborn.

    If staff at Pinderfields General Hospital in Wakefield had performed a caesarean sooner, then Leigh Mutch and Marc Allen's son Oliver would have been born alive. 

    The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has admitted liability and settled out of court.

  15. Calendar Girls musical up for three prestigious awardspublished at 08:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Gary Barlow's musical based on the story of Yorkshire's Calendar Girls has been nominated for three Olivier Awards.

    The Girls, which premiered in Leeds in 2015, is based on the true story of the Women's Institute members who stripped off for a charity calendar and is now showing in the West End. 

    The Take That star created the £3m show with Tim Firth, who wrote the 2003 Calendar Girls film.    

    The show has been nominated, external for the Best New Musical, Best Actress in a Musical and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical awards.

  16. Large funeral procession expected to cause York traffic disruption published at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Up to four hours of traffic disruption is expected in York today between James Street and Fulford due to a large funeral procession.

    Very heavy traffic levels are likely to occur in the St Oswalds Church area on Fulford Road during the funeral and when the procession moves on to Fulford Cemetery off Fordlands Road.

    Delays are expected between 11:00 and 15:00.

    Traffic signal timings will be amended to minimise disruption but motorists are advised to use alternative routes if possible and allow more time for their journeys, City of York Council says.

  17. Trouble on Sheffield's trams: Purple Supertram route suspended for second day published at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    The Purple route has been shut down for a second day due to a points failure at Gleadless Townsend.

    Thirty four people are reported missing every day in Yorkshire and the Humber region, new figures reveal .

    The majority of police forces in our area have seen an increase in the number of calls about missing people, and many others have been missing for years.
