    Clough, who spent 11 years in charge of the Brewers before joining Derby in 2009, returned as boss this week after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's move to QPR.

  5. New hi-tech computer system for emergencies in Cheshirepublished at 17:35

    A new hi-tech computer system to deal with emergency calls, external more effectively is being introduced by Cheshire Police.

    The force says it used to have seven different ways of answering calls and dispatching officers - it's now going to use just one system. 

    Cheshire Police says it is the first in the country to have the technology, which is already used by the defence and security industries, and it says it will save money and improve the service.

    A Staffordshire health chief says they need to look at their complaints procedure after saying it "failed" the family of a toddler who died at the former Stafford Hospital.

    Today an independent case review called for a new inquest to be opened into the death of three-year-old Jonnie Meek, from Cannock.

    Jonnie's parents had concerns over a coroner recording that he died from natural causes - but the report says it took 15 months for their questions to be answered.

    A coot which was found with a fishing line wrapped around its tongue in Stoke-on-Trent is "touch and go", the RSPCA says.

    The organisation, external says the bird was found in Tunstall Park on Tuesday and has been taken to the Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, Nantwich. 

    The RSPCA is urging people to get rid of fishing litter properly.

  12. Cheshire pair sentenced for human trafficking offencespublished at 16:44

    A man from Nantwich, who police say was the head of an organised criminal gang trafficking women into the UK, external to sexually exploit them, has been jailed for three and a half years.

    Krzysztof Henryk Jacubiak, 49, of James Hall Street had previously pleaded guilty to 36 offences relating to human trafficking and sexual exploitation. 

    Cheshire Police say he was helped by 37-year-old Marlena Soska of Badger Avenue in Crewe who's been given a community order after admitting seven offences relating to human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

    A "Christmas Jumper Day, external" is being held at Staffordshire University for the third year to raise money and encourage "festive spirit".

    The university says academic Dr Matt Slater is behind it as he says it also "boosts their social identity". 

    He says that improves students' approach to their studies and the support they get from their peers - plus it's a great excuse for me to also get the festive knitwear on! 

  15. Fire in derelict building in Burtonpublished at 16:20

    There's a large fire in a derelict building on the Derby Street industrial estate, external in Burton.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service says the building is well alight. It's not thought anyone was inside.  

    It is causing delays on the A5121 Derby Street between the A511 Horninglow Road junction and Clay Mills.

  16. Train travel warning as £250m Stafford rail work enters 'final stages'published at 16:12

    People planning to travel between Stafford and Crewe by train over the Christmas period are being warned to check before they travel , externalby Network Rail.

    It's because they say the £250m Stafford Area Improvements Programme is "entering its final stages" - a new railway flyover is being built over the West Coast main line at Norton Bridge. 

    Network Rail says services will be affected as they look to get ready to finish in Easter.

  18. Cause of death 'withheld' by police over Cheshire body findpublished at 15:41

    The cause of death of a man whose body was found at a bus stop in a Cheshire village isn't being revealed at the moment, police say.

    Cheshire Police, external say the 43-year-old was discovered yesterday morning in Church Lawton, near the Red Bull traffic lights. 

    A post-mortem examination has been been carried out, but the force says "the cause of death has been withheld and the death remains unexplained".
