  2. Football: Burton Albion grab win with late penaltypublished at 15:07

    Substitute Lucas Akins scored a late penalty to beat Swindon and ensure Burton Albion ended 2015 in the League One automatic promotion places.

    People and firms in Staffordshire are being warned to take cyber attacks seriously - with the county council saying "millions of pounds" are lost every month to online fraud, external.

    James Workman is from Dephrisk Limited, a Midlands firm which says it tries to cut online cyber risk for companies.

    He has a few simple tips about choosing the right password to keep hackers guessing.

  6. Darts: Phil Taylor sees off Painter in PDC World Championshippublished at 13:40

    Stoke-on-Trent's Phil Taylor won a scrappy encounter against Kevin Painter to reach the last 16 of the PDC World Championship.

    Taylor, bidding for his 17th world title, was well below his best but still managed to win 4-1.

    Taylor, 55, has now won 31 of 32 matches played against Painter, including the 2004 PDC World final.

  7. How Motorhead went from having to "steal equipment" to global famepublished at 13:11

    Stoke-on-Trent born Motorhead frontman Lemmy, who's died aged 70, formed the iconic band "so that no-one can fire me again" - after being kicked out of the group Hawkwind.

    The beginnings of the band were not auspicious. Lemmy claimed they were so badly off they had to steal equipment and they practised in a disused furniture warehouse.  

    By 1977 the band were so disillusioned they agreed to split and put on a farewell show at The Marquee in London - but a record producer at the gig offered them studio time and they recorded their first album.

    It marked the start of the band's most successful period, which peaked with the release of their fourth album, Ace of Spades, in 1980 and included the thunderous title track which became the band's definitive anthem.

    Larnell Cole had given the visitors an early lead with a shot which was deflected past Ben Garratt.

    Ryan Lowe wasted a close-range chance for Crewe, but then provided the pass for Ryan Colclough to find the corner.

    Shrewsbury keeper Mark Halstead denied Colclough and Lowe, but Shrewsbury sub Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro hit a post before Shaun Whalley beat Garratt to win it.

    A man died after being hit by a train near Stafford last night, the ambulance service says.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service, external says it was called out yesterday evening to an area just off the A51 between Stone and Stafford.

    They say the man was pronounced dead at the scene and a British Transport Police, external investigation into the death is now under way.

    Lemmy, who has died aged 70 after being diagnosed with cancer, was the frontman and only constant member of Motorhead, one of the loudest bands in rock music.

    He was born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, on 24 December 1945.  

    Lemmy is credited with introducing punk sounds into the heavy metal mix, paving the way for a generation of thrash metal and speed metal followers.  

    He was also something of a rock legend, his mutton-chop whiskers, facial wart and high microphone position making him one of the most recognisable figures in the business.

    Substitute Sam Kelly scored after a weaving run to give Port Vale all three points against Bury in League One.

    Byron Moore hit the post earlier on for the hosts while AJ Leitch Smith nearly turned home Colin Daniel's cross.

    Midfielder Kelly got the winner when he cut in from the left and beat three defenders before firing home.
