    A man's been arrested as part of a murder investigation following he death of a man in Crewe last night. 

    The 51-year-old victim was found on Edleston Road with serious injuries but died a short time later in hospital.

    This afternoon, Cheshire Police say they've arrested a 20-year-old in connection with the death. 

    They add that the dead man's not been formally identified and a post-mortem examination's expected to take place later today.

    The force adds that Edleston Road remains closed and they expect it to stay this way for most of the day.

    Holidaymakers visiting Crete are being asked to keep an eye out for a missing Cheshire man who's not been seen for 11 years, external.

    Steven Cook, from Sandbach, was 20 when he was last seen in 2005 outside a pub in Malia asking for directions to his hotel.

    Cheshire Police say they'll keep searching for him until they know what's happened, adding that their file on his case remains open.

    Steven's family said in a statement they still believe he's "out there" alive and their "desire to bring him back home to us is stronger than ever".

    Cheshire Police have re-released pictures of how Steven looked when he disappeared and how he might look aged 30.

    Registration is open for Staffordshire's Ironman , external2017. 

    The event in June will see athletes complete a 1.2 mile (1.9km) swim at Chase Water followed by a 56km (34.7 mile) cycle ride and a half-marathon finishing at the Shugborough Estate.

    The event will follow a winter closure of the historic estate, which is being returned to the management of its owners, the National Trust, from November.

    A police officer has been hurt after being hit by an off-road motorbike in Tamworth, external.

    The 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with head, arm and neck injuries last night, Staffordshire Police say. 

    The collision happened on Hockley Road, and officers say a 19-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident.

    On transfer deadline day, the Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Ward joined fellow Championship side Burton Albion on a season-long loan.  

    Ward signed for Forest in 2015 on a free transfer after his contract with Derby County came to an end.

    Meanwhile in League One, Port Vale have signed goalkeeper Miguel Santos and winger Gezim Shalaj, who have both been training with the club, subject to international clearance.

    Portuguese former Benfica B man Santos, 21, joins on a two-year deal, having previously had youth spells with SC Lourel, Belenenses and Estoril.

    Switzerland-born Shalaj, 26, has signed a one-year deal after leaving Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest.

    A failing hospital in Stafford has been given six months to turn things around, a watchdog says. 

    Huntercombe Hospital was rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after inspectors identified several serious failings including over-use of restraint.

    The hospital, which cares for children with mental health issues and has been placed under special measures by the CQC, said it was working to improve, and to address the concerns.

    Staffordshire Police say their officers were called to Bath Street following reports that a man had threatened somebody with what appeared to be a firearm. 

    The force says they are searching the house to try and work out what happened.

    Stoke City made three loan signings on transfer deadline day, including the Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony.

    Ivorian Bony, 27, has made 15 league starts since joining City for £28m from Swansea in January 2015, but had not featured under new boss Pep Guardiola.

    The Potters have also signed Porto and Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi, 24, on loan for the season with a view to a permanent deal.

    Derby goalkeeper Lee Grant, 33, has joined on loan until January.

    Meanwhile, defender Philipp Wollscheid has left the club to join Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a season-long loan and 26-year-old forward Joselu has joined Spanish side Deportivo la Coruna on a similar deal.

    A man found with serious injuries in an alleyway in Crewe has died, prompting a murder investigation.

    The victim was discovered off Edleston Road in Crewe at about 21:30 on Wednesday.
