    Stone's railway station has turned its welcome signs golden in recognition of the town's Olympic hero Joe Clarke. 

    It was confirmed last night that Joe is to receive the Freedom of the Borough and turn on Stafford's Christmas lights.

    A project to restore Nantwich's famous aqueduct has won a conservation award. 

    The aqueduct, which dates back to 1826, was repaired, repainted, given new signage and the towpaths were improved. 

    The work cost around £200,000. It's won the Restoration and Historic Environment category at the Living Waterways Awards, external in Birmingham.

    The Stoke-on-Trent coroner is appealing for help in tracing the family of a man who's died.

    Laurence Croton, 83, who lived in Halmer End, died at home on the 13 September. 

    His death isn't being treated as suspicious. The Coroner, however, needs to trace Mr Croton's next of kin.

    A fire at a Staffordshire farm that's been burning for over two weeks is to be capped with soil "immediately". 

    Cannock Chase District Council says it will take up to four days to cover the site at Slitting Mill in Rugeley and although it won't put the wood waste fire out, it will reduce the amount of smoke. 

    Air quality monitoring will be undertaken on site to ensure any smoke that is released once the capping work has been completed, remains a low risk to local residents.

    A teenager with cerebral palsy from Stoke-on-Trent is having a bedroom makeover - thanks to a children's charity. 

    Thirteen-year-old Issan Ali, from Cobridge, also has chronic lung disease, which makes it difficult for him to communicate and move. 

    His family are renovating a house to accommodate his needs and the Make A Wish Foundation has donated funds to kit out his bedroom - with a movie theme.

    The National Trust, external has submitted an application to create a new car park at Shugborough.

    Owned by the National Trust, the Shugborough Estate has been managed by Staffordshire County Council for the last 50 years. 

    The authority has withdrawn from its lease, meaning the management of the site will return to the trust from November for refurbishment, ready to open in March 2017.

    The conservation charity has submitted an application for planning permission to create 150 extra "hard standing" parking spaces which can be used at all times of the year. 

    It follows plans to open the Grade I listed parkland to visitors through the winter months.

    A motorist has been stopped by police on the M6 after being caught driving at 96mph.

    Staffordshire Police and the Central Motorway Police Group are today joining other forces across the continent on Project Edward - an acronym for European Day Without A Road Death, external in a bid to reduce the number of road deaths.

    Complaints to Severn Trent fell by 28% last year, giving the water company the second-best record in England and Wales.

    The figures have been released today by the Consumer Council for Water, external, which says the company has seen falling complaints for a number of years now.

    Disney figurines being made by a Stoke-on-Trent pottery firm are flying off the shelves around the world - including at Disneyland. 

    The figurines made by the English Ladies Company, external, which is based in Fenton, have been on sale in Harrods since July. 

    They have recreated characters such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and are currently working on a limited edition Snow White in time for Christmas.

    It's claimed changes to bus routes in parts of Stafford have had a devastating effect on the town. 

    The Baswich area of the town has been particularly hard hit by the changes which were made by Arriva earlier this month. 

    Residents have said it's having an impact on children getting to school on time.

    Local councillor Ann Edgeller backed a borough council motion calling on something to be done.

    BBC Radio Stoke has contacted Arriva and have invited them to discuss the issue.

    Stafford Borough Council, external last night voted unanimously to give Olympic medalist Joe Clarke the Freedom of the Borough. 

    Joe, from Stone, claimed Team GB's second gold of the Rio Olympics in the K1 men's slalom last month. 

    He's also been given the job of switching on the town's Christmas lights, speaking of the light switch-on, Clarke said it would be an "honour".

    Care services in Staffordshire and Cheshire are at risk because of a failure to recruit enough British-born workers according to new research by a national charity. 

    Independent Age, external says up to 80,000 care workers in England may lose the right to live and work here as a result of the Brexit vote.

    Port Vale's two central defenders Remi Streete and Nathan Smith have both been in good form this season. 

    The partnership came together at the start of the season and has seen them score some useful goals.
