    On Midlands Today this evening we'll look at how a council in part of the region has decided not to contact thousands of motorists who were wrongly fined for driving in a bus lane.

    We'll have the latest on the ongoing management saga for one of the Midland's biggest football clubs and hear from one of the country's first female coach drivers who has retired today after 60 years at the same company.

  6. HS2-affected communities to get £40m of government cashpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    Funding totalling £40m is going to be spent by the government to support communities affected by the HS2 high speed rail line to the Midlands, external, including Staffordshire.

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has revealed the money as he reinforced ministers' commitment to the project saying it is "going to happen".

    The government's also going to spend £30m on improving road safety along the route. 

    Of the £40m to support affected communities, £15m will go to the "central area" which includes Staffordshire along with Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire.

    A young girl from Staffordshire is preparing to help hundreds of refugees across Europe, for the second time.

    Evie Donovan, 10, came up with the idea to send shoeboxes of aid to Greece last year, external.

    She told BBC Radio Stoke she is preparing to send her 1,000th shoebox this week.

    Nantwich Town's chairman says their supporters are "abuzz" as they are one win away from reaching the first round of the FA Cup.

    Gritters are going to be sent out in Stoke-on-Trent tonight but the city council says it's just for a test run.

    The Stoke-on-Trent snooker player Liam Highfield has produced the performance of his career by beating world number one Mark Selby 4-3 at the English Open, external in Manchester.

  15. Stone MP criticises fellow MPs over trying to 'overturn' Brexit votepublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    The Conservative MP for Stone, Bill Cash, has accused MPs of trying to lessen the impact of the Brexit vote. 

    This afternoon in the House of Commons, Labour has been pushing for ministers to be more open about their negotiation strategy. 

    It comes after a government source said MPs would not get a vote on how Brexit negotiations are handled but could still be asked to approve the "final" deal.

    In parliament, Conservative Sir Bill Cash, a leading Leave campaigner, accused Remain-voting MPs of "constantly and disingenuously stating their acceptance of the result of the referendum". 

    He said he found it "unseemly if not absurd" for the same MPs to try to "mitigate or overturn" the referendum result.

    Ten cats have gone missing from a street in one part of Staffordshire within a week of each other, the RSPCA says.

    The organisation says the cats all lived in or around the Everest Road area of Kidsgrove and were reported missing during the first week of this month. 

    The RSPCA says it doesn't have any evidence or idea about what may have happened to them and has called it "a strange case", adding that they are concerned.

    Port Vale's captain Ben Purkiss says the language barrier with some of the club's new signings hasn't been an issue.

    Eleven players joined the club from a different country this summer and have helped Vale to their current position of fourth in the League One table

  19. Vote of no confidence meeting called over council's chairmanpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    The leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is calling for a vote of no confidence in its chairman. 

    Concerns have been raised over why Conservative councillor Julie Bull didn't declare an interest in a planning application when it is alleged her family owned land near the site.

    The authority's leader Sybil Ralphs has called a meeting of councillors for next week, external which will also call for a change in the law as it currently gives members the power to appoint a chair, but not remove them. 

    Councillor Bull has declined to comment today. The meeting is set to take place on Wednesday 19 October.
