    A resident living near to County Hospital in Stafford says a member of staff at the hospital once parked on his drive to avoid paying for parking. 

    The hospital currently has 730 spaces and it costs £8.60 to park for eight hours.

    University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust says it has taken steps to ensure that parking arrangements are fair to all staff. 

    These are designed to provide patients with the best access to the hospital and ensure there is ample on-site parking for staff, the trust say.

    A pony has died after getting stuck in the canal in Stoke-on-Trent, the fire service say.

    Fire crews from Leek, Newcastle and Hanley, external were called to Birches Head Road shortly after 08:00 this morning. 

    The pony was rescued and a vet was called, but was unable to save the animal.

    Council tax could rise by almost 5% across the region, if Cheshire East Council plans are approved. 

    The rise is part of plans to save over £100m, external over the next three years.

    The increase equates to a £1.21 per week rise on an average Band D property.

    The council says it needs to offset the loss of more than £40m in government grants, inflation and additional service demands, including "the needs of a growing ageing population".

    The proposals will be discussed at full council in February.

    A Crewe man has been sentenced to nine months in jail after being found guilty of stealing a 19th Century Greek icon from Chester Cathedral.  

    61-year-old Vasiljis Apilat, from Edleston Road in the town, stole The Raising of Lazarus painting in 2014 and left a cheap Christmas toy angel in its place.

    Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough believes staying at the club is the right thing to do.

    He put an end to speculation that he might take on the Nottingham Forest job last night.

    There have been three robberies in six days, external in Newcastle, according to Staffordshire Police.

    A 28-year-old woman was at the ticket machine on Midway car-park last Wednesday afternoon when a man approached her with a knife and told her to drop her things. He stole her bag, purse and phone. 

    Yesterday morning, just before 10:00, a man approached a 31-year-old woman at a cash machine in Windermere Road. He tried to steal her purse, but she managed to stop him. However he grabbed the money from the cashpoint and ran off. 

    Then, just before 10:30, a man stole a purse from a 66-year-old woman on Paradise Street.

    Port Vale have signed midfielder Axel Prohouly on loan from QPR until the end of the season.

    He is a central midfielder, but can play anywhere across midfield.

    He joined QPR at the age of 17 from AS Monaco, the same club where current Vale players Sebastien Amoros and Anthony de Freitas started their careers.

    A Crewe man is due to be sentenced today after being found guilty of stealing a 19th Century Greek icon from Chester Cathedral. 

    61-year-old Vasilijs Apilats, of Edleston Road, stole the painting in 2014 - he'll be sentenced at Chester Crown Court.

    Thor - the three-legged white fox - still hasn't been found. 

    He's been spotted a number of times since he went missing from Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom, near Telford, on Saturday.

    The four-year-old Arctic-silver fox cross has most recently been spotted near Howle, Newport. 

    Farm co-owner, Edward Dorrell, said the fox got out after a small branch fell on to his enclosure fence.
