    "Appropriate" action will be taken after concerns were raised about bullying at the authority, Cheshire East Council says. 

    There are allegations a senior official was asked to "dig the dirt" on a colleague. 

    Andrew North is Cheshire East Council's internal auditor, responsible for making sure the council isn't breaking rules and is managing public money properly. 

    Late last year a meeting of councillors heard that an unnamed member of staff asked a senior official to "dig the dirt" on him. 

    The council now says it's asked for more details about the allegation and the evidence for it. 

    It says it takes allegations of bullying very seriously, and will take "whatever action is appropriate".

    A Stoke-on-Trent vets has spent £140,000 on a new scanner, which staff say is helping to save the lives of animals. 

    Willow Vets, who have surgeries in Tunstall and Endon, say the new CT scanner means they can now treat pets in ways they've not been able to before. 

    The surgery says it's the first scanner of its kind to be made available in the whole of Staffordshire.

    A team of British soldiers are preparing to become the first all-female group to walk across Antarctica.

    They will have to endure temperatures of -40C and walk for up to nine hours a day pulling more than their own body weight in supplies.

    Among the many challenges is coping with extreme cold when you need a loo break.

    Major Sandy Hennis from Cannock, Staffordshire said she hoped the expedition would inspire girls and women everywhere.

  6. Port Vale v Bristol Rovers disturbance: Six injured, four arrestspublished at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2017

    An appeal for witnesses, external following a "series of disturbances" at a football game on Saturday has been published by Staffordshire Police.

    Bristol Rovers fans attended an away game at Port Vale when there was trouble between groups of fans, match stewards and police.

    Here's what the force has said:

    • Thirty Bristol Rovers supporters were ejected from the ground during the game
    • After the game some 50 Rovers fans congregated in one of the car parks
    • Four males and two females sustained minor injuries and were treated by St John Ambulance at the ground
    • Four arrests were made at the match - all have been bailed

    As part of investigations in to the incident, officials from the two clubs and officers from Staffordshire Police will be studying CCTV images.

    An investigation is being called for into the conduct of police and stewards at a Port Vale v Bristol Rovers football match.

    At least two fans needed hospital treatment, with reports of pepper spray being used and supporters getting punched and pushed to the ground.

    Rovers chairman Steve Hamer is calling for a full investigation.

    Uttoxeter farmer Richard Weston told us he's worried people will think he's to blame for tonnes of waste dumped on his land.

    Speaking to us earlier he said: "At the end of the day if they blame me they are blaming the wrong person, because it's nothing to do with me.

    "I'm just the victim who can't do anything about it.

    "It's sat here now and it's steaming, it smells, people are going to start complaining but again what do I do?"

  11. UKIP officials resign over Paul Nuttall's Hillsborough commentspublished at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2017

    Two UKIP officials have resigned from the party, claiming leader Paul Nuttall and donor Arron Banks showed "crass insensitivity" about the Hillsborough disaster.

    Mr Nuttall said last week he was "sorry" over false claims that he had lost close friends in the 1989 tragedy.

    The Environment Agency is trying to find out who's responsible for dumping domestic waste in Yoxall, pictured, and Uttoxeter last week.

    The fly-tippers dumped waste in Yoxall just two days after waste was discovered on farmland near Uttoexeter.

    It's not yet clear if the two incidents are linked.

    Former Stoke captain, Andy Griffin, thinks Lee Grant should remain as the club's number one goalkeeper for the rest of the season. 

    Jack Butland is currently undergoing rehab after injuring his ankle and is due to be fit in April. 

    Griffin told BBC Radio Stoke that Mark Hughes should stick with Grant, as Butland has plenty of time on his side.

    A fly-tipper dumped 40 tonnes of waste on to farmland near Uttoxeter.

    Richard Weston who owns the land off the A50 said it's going to cost him about £8,000 to remove the rubbish, pictured below.

    Two days later a similar amount was fly-tipped on a road in nearby Yoxall, when waste including bottles, cement and nappies was also dumped.

    The Environment Agency said it is investigating both incidents.
