    The number of emergency food parcels handed out by food banks in Stoke-on-Trent has fallen over the past year, according to statistics from a charity. 

    Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank says it gave three-day food supplies to over 10,330 people in the city in 2016-17, external and 11,038 the year before.

    The charity says it believes the fall is due to a "drop-in" service they offer giving advice on benefits, debt and budgeting money to families "facing a crisis".

    Care providers in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire are calling on their councils to release millions of pounds of extra funding for adult social care. 

    More than £30m is coming to the county council with Stoke-on-Trent City Council in line for £12m over the next three years.

    But care providers say the money is not filtering through to them. 

    The county council says they're working with health providers to work out how best to spend the extra cash.

    You've been sharing your thoughts about a school in Stoke-on-Trent asking parents to chip in to meet a funding cut of nearly £300,000. 

    The letter from St Joseph's College in Trent Vale, external asks them to pay £60 per term, per child.

    On BBC Radio Stoke's Facebook page, Déaglán Ó Braonáin posted, external: "If you read it correctly, they are not demanding it, it is optional if you can afford it." 

    But Karen Jones wrote, external: "We gave £50 a term while our daughter was there. It didn't feel like it was 'voluntary'." 

    While Mark Bargna added, external: "Utter nonsense. The school should undergo an independent financial audit to see where and on what it is spending its money."

    Urgent safety improvements are going to be carried out to a public space in Stoke-on-Trent city centre where a city of culture event is to be held this weekend. 

    The city council says paving on Albion Square, Hanley has been damaged by trucks driving on to pedestrianised areas and it needs to put in short-term fixes to cut the number of trip hazards.

    The council says it's speaking to the original contractors who laid the paving in 2011 about a long-term solution.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service says it happened on Emberton Street, Porthill, at around 09:45 and, when they arrived, the 69-year-old was already out of her Audi. 

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says no-one was in the house at the time and the woman wasn't hurt.

    A Stoke-on-Trent charity whose volunteers make calls to elderly people, external claims it has saved around £630,000 in avoiding "unnecessary" GP and A&E visits.

    The Carelink scheme aims to tackle loneliness and reduce the strain on the NHS by "befriending" anyone over 50 who is lonely and isolated.

    The charity says it offers users up to five calls a week along with advice and support to try and pick up on health issues at an early stage.

    They are funding by the Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Group. , external

    Carelink says the number of people getting their "befriending calls" has increased from 150 in 2015 to 211 this year.

    Port Vale's fans are daring to dream of surviving in League One, after their side kept their hopes alive with a late win at Walsall. 

    They still need to win at Fleetwood on Sunday to have a realistic chance of staying up.

    On Twitter, supporters gave their views to @BBCRadioStoke with Simon Wakefield saying, external: "Fantastic Port Vale, one more to go. Dig deep guys." 

    Michael David added, external: "I still believe we can do it but if we played like that all season we wouldn't be in this position." 

    While Steven Frost is daring to dream for this weekend's last game, external: "If the lads show the same passion and commitment they have tonight at Fleetwood, anything is possible." 

    And in case Port Vale's players needed any incentive to survive, @azzafed added, external: "If we stay up I'll streak naked through Burslem!"

  16. Couple 'horrified' as meet and greet car given parking ticketpublished at 10:09 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    A Staffordshire couple say they were "horrified" to find their car, left with a Heathrow Airport parking firm, had been left in a council car park and issued with parking tickets.

    In total, 275 vehicles were left over the Easter weekend in West Drayton in similar circumstances, about 15 minutes from the airport.

    Companies offering meet and greet services meet customers at the airport then take their vehicle to a secure parking facility, and return it when the owner gets back from their trip.

    David and Julia O'Neill, from Lichfield, found out their car had been issued with a parking ticket after they returned from a two-week trip to Vietnam. 

    Ms O'Neill said the couple were "horrified to find out our car had been parked here" having been told it would be left in "a secure car park".

    Both Hillingdon Council and Heathrow Airport have begun an investigation.
