We're not bothered by qualifications or CVs. We just look at the candidate and work out who they are, are they Mr Grumpy, Mr Slow, Mr Happy? If they tick all the right boxes then we put them in the shop for half the day. That's it, I dreamt that up years ago."

  5. Campaigner welcomes 'shared spaces' reviewpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

A Staffordshire Moorlands woman who's been campaigning for years to get "shared spaces" scrapped has welcomed an urgent review into the schemes.

Shared spaces try to make drivers take more care by removing traffic signs, pedestrian crossings and even kerbs.

Disability campaigners say schemes like those in Hanley and Leek exclude disabled users because the lack of kerbs and road markings make it difficult for a blind person or guide dogs to know where it is safe to walk.

Sarah Gayton, from Leek, is delighted a group of MPs agrees with her and is urging the government to stop authorities from creating new schemes.
