    Stoke City's chairman Peter Coates says he thinks newly promoted side Huddersfield Town will be playing their football next season in the toughest league in the world.

    Huddersfield will play in the top flight for the first time since 1972 and will play in the Premier League for the very first time.

    Next season will be Stoke's 10th since their own promotion and Coates told BBC Radio Stoke it comes with a lot of challenges.

    The force says traffic is still being diverted around the scene as they carry out a forensic investigation.

    Three men and two youngsters have been arrested after violence erupted on a Burton street., external

    Staffordshire Police said they received several calls to fights breaking out on Uxbridge Street last night.

    They say all five are from Burton, aged from 15 to 35, and are being held on suspicion of affray.

    Three other men involved in the incident suffered injuries and went to A&E but they aren't thought to be seriously hurt, officers say.

    A backlog of 13,000 potholes in Staffordshire is going to be tackled thanks to a £5m pot, the county council's announced.

    The authority says it'll be employing an extra 12 "patching crews" and four machines to speed up repairs.

    It says that the county's large rural network of roads has been a "challenge" in terms of repairing potholes.

    As well as fixing them, the council says, where roads have several nearby defects, it'll carry out wider repairs to the road's surface.

    A former patient of disgraced surgeon Ian Paterson has described how he nearly killed her on the operating table.

    Gill Dallow, 54, from Lichfield, underwent a laparoscopy at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham in 1996.

    The surgery is a minimally invasive procedure, but Paterson tore through an artery.

    The 59-year-old from Altrincham, Greater Manchester, was employed by the NHS at the Heart of England Trust, and also performed operations at the Spire's Little Aston and Parkway hospitals in the West Midlands.

    On Wednesday, Paterson was jailed for 15 years after being found guilty in April of intentionally harming patients.

    Disgraced breast surgeon Ian Paterson, 59, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

    Paterson was found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent and three counts of unlawful wounding.

    His victims included Frances Perks of Burntwood, Staffordshire who had several operations after being refered to him which, it later turned out, had not been necessary.

    Mr Justice Jeremy Baker gave the sentence at Nottingham Crown Court.

    A cyclist and a van have been involved in a serious crash in Staffordshire this morning, external, police say.

    Staffordshire Police says the incident is ongoing and has happened at Straight Mile in Four Ashes, at the junction of Vicarage Road.

    The force says they and the ambulance service are at the scene and the road is currently blocked. The air ambulance has also been to the area.

    Derek Gibbs lost his daughter Kelly in January last year, after she’d smoked the drug Spice.

    It’s now a year since the former legal highs became illegal, but Derek argues the drug is still easily accessible and things are now worse.

    Staff at a glue-makers in Stafford are striking for a second day.

    It's part of a six-month dispute over pay between Bostik and the Unite trade union.

    They say they are unhappy at a 2% pay rise offered to workers and have industrial action planned until mid-July.

    The company says, while it respects the decision of the union members, its door "remains open" for further talks.

    For the first time bags, back-packs and trolleys will be checked and guests will be scanned with security devices.
