    The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Hanley has been evacuated - because of a small electrical fire.

    The museum houses treasure such as the Staffordshire Hoard, ceramics and fine art.

    Staffordshire Fire Service says two fire engines and 10 officers are at the scene - visitors are standing and sitting outside the main entrance.

    Lichfield Cathedral has been evacuated because of a "suspicious incident", Staffordshire Police say., external

    Management at the cathedral got everybody out before the police arrived at lunchtime.

    The force says it's "not aware of any specific threat", but is reviewing the situation.

    Cyclists competing in The Women's Tour will hit the streets of Staffordshire next Thursday.

    The route will see them speed through Stoke-on-Trent, Stone, Stafford, Cannock Chase, Uttoxeter, Leek and Rudyard - as well as many other places.

  4. Tattoo artist raises £1k for Manchester victimspublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    A Kidsgrove woman's helped raise £1,300 for the Manchester victims - by tattooing bees.

    Jodie Eardley from the Bearskin Collective spent all day Sunday and Monday working on people who wanted one.

    After last week's terror attack, which killed 22 people, the worker bee was widely shared as a symbol of the city.

    She said: "I think I did 12 hours of tattooing yesterday, from 9am to 9pm. One of the heaviest sessions I've ever done."

  5. Gamers urged to join Staffordshire Universitypublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Staffordshire University is to launch what it describes as the UK's first degree course in esports.

    Competitive events between gamers are often staged in front of a live audience and streamed to millions more online.

    Experts believe the sector will generate £1bn by 2020.

    French club Paris St-Germain has created its own esports team, while Manchester City, among other English clubs, employ professional gamers.

    Staffordshire University's Batchelor of Arts in esports will begin in September 2018 - it will teach people about the history of esports, and how to organise and host tournaments.

    Rachel Gowers, Academic Dean for Recruitment in the Business School, said: “Over 73% of those employed within esports are under the age of 35 and their skills are in demand."

    Psychoactive drugs like spice and mamba are now more dangerous and unpredictable than ever - according to people using them in Stoke-on-Trent.

    It's been a year since this form of synthetic cannabis was made illegal.

    Public Health figures tell us the number of people getting treatment in the city for dependence on psychoactive drugs has more than tripled since 2015.

    I've been meeting people who use Spice in Hanley, and those who try to help them beat the drug.

    One user, who wanted to remain anonymous, told me it's "the worst drug to hit England".

    Glue-makers Bostik says its door "remains open" for talks to bring an end to today's strike in Stafford.

    The Unite trade union said staff members in the town rejected a 1.5% pay rise for being too low.

    The strike is the first of 11 days of planned industrial action - which will run into mid-July.

    A campaigner trying to stop people using psychoactive drugs is urging young people in Stoke-on-Trent not to be tempted to try the substances.

    It's been a year since this form of synthetic cannabis was made illegal.

    Jeremy Sare, who works for Mentor UK, told me: "We need to get more education around the harms of these substances, even though they are affecting just this small community. I think younger people need to be more resilient to the pressures."

    Eddie Hall has achieved his "lifelong dream" of becoming the World's Strongest Man.

    The 29-year-old, of Clayton, beat 29 other men to the title in the competition held in Botswana.

    He tweeted after the contest he was retiring from World's Strongest Man.

    Mr Hall, who has been crowned Britain's Strongest Man four times, previously told the BBC his life was dedicated to achieving the world title.

    His manager Mo Chaudry said Hall worked for a decade towards this "absolutely extraordinary" achievement.
